Hi all
I ride a Tongxin 175 rpm motor in a (selfbuilt!) 26'' front wheel. Bought this from OZ trader Brett White, came with spokes only. Have ridden this for about six years with no trouble. Came to the site via a search on building my own LiFePo4 pack as my yuasa SLAs have now seen better days but still work. I see moves are afoot in China to get riders away from SLA (often underpowered 7Ah that die after one season, mine are some years old & 12 Ah, well cared for to have lasted this long)
Also have a Goldenmotor HBM 36 (408 clone) that has done time in a 20'' folder, but the Tongxin has more torque & is much lighter, so better all round.
Feel that if I ever built another bike I would switch to rear motors as they allow for fitting in a part/full suspension frame. Also that a faster motor is technically fine in a
20'' folder BUT a big man on a little bike attracts bad attention (& empty beer bottles) from local youths, so an ATB style blends in & is 'socially acceptable' even if not the first choice to motorise. Hopefully I will be dropping from 27lbs batts to 9lbs, without taking on a second mortgage - hence the self build research. See other Tongxin fans on here so thought I'd join, Thanks, Pete.
