    charging on train

The bloke in the report on London Overground was using a 'not for public use' socket - these are intended for things like cleaning when the train is in the depot, and the voltage from them can be very erratic when the train's in service - I certainly wouldn't plug my phone in one. The public...

    Scott e-Sub Sport 20

I've been commuting in Blackpool on a Scott e-sub Tour (Shimano Steps) for two years, and assume the Sport is similar quality. Used in all weathers, I have had NO problems with it, and the only hint of rust is on the mounting bolts for the motor - which is a Shimano part. No loose or broken...

    Shimano Steps range

Don't get hung up on range - how often are you going to go on a 50-mile ride? Stick the bike on Medium or High and charge every ride - Eco is only any use for getting you home if you go a bit too far on a higher setting, it's a miserable experience to be tolerated, not enjoyed. Stick it on High...

    Cycle Mirror

I always chip in on these threads and suggest the Zefal Dooback - good size, rock steady, and folds out of the way - just be sure to get the right-handed one. The downside is that it's chromed plastic so the image isn't perfect but perfectly good enough. I had a mirrycle fitted to a drop-bar...

    Finally Bought one

I bought a Scott e-Sub Tour a couple of months ago - looks like the same bike but mine has Shimano Steps instead of the Bosch drive. I've ridden this bike in all weathers, including riding along the seafront in Blackpool while waves are crashing over the wall and there's barely a mark on it -...

    New Scott E sub speed

Yep, there was a 20% discount applied to Scott ebikes at most suppliers last week (I got mine from Tredz) - list price of the Tour was previously £1999. I find that the range indication is very erratic at the moment because I spend so much time riding above assist speed - maybe it will settle...

    New Scott E sub speed

You swine! I've been drooling over that bike for ages but in the end went for the Scott e-Sub Tour because it was £400 cheaper (your bike is the e-sub SPEED by the way, the e-sub SPORT is a Bosch bike). I plan to write a review when I've run it a bit longer, but I'm very impressed with the...

Torque and Rotation (Cadence) Sensing - Clarification Question

[edit: I was writing this while Terry posted the message above!!] Hi Terry, allow me to confuse you even more! While you say you're unfit, it isn't clear to me what you mean. For example there are lots of people who don't regard themselves as disabled but who maybe have a heart condition or...

Upgrading from Giant Twist Esprit Power

I'm just very familiar with the routes and know where the sand collects; doesn't take much to send the bike flying! My main problem with sand is that when the surface is wet the resulting spray contains grains that get everywhere; it doesn't need much for that to happen.

Upgrading from Giant Twist Esprit Power

Thanks for the replies so far; am I right in thinking that all of these bikes should be pretty sound from a weatherproofing point of view?

Upgrading from Giant Twist Esprit Power

Thanks Steve - sounds good. I ride the Giant in max power all the time, not because I need to but adding extra input through the pedals is just unpleasant! There's still plenty of range for my needs but it would be great to have more in reserve.

Upgrading from Giant Twist Esprit Power

D8ve - the Giant already has a hub gear (Nexus 7) - the main issue I have with the bike is the very spongy pedals - even riding assisted it can be unpleasant if I'm pressing on. I'm assuming of course that a more modern torque sensor will be far less intrusive, and would be interested to know...

Upgrading from Giant Twist Esprit Power

Good point, I don't think there's anywhere local to me but I have family in Leicestershire so should be able to call in at 50 Cycles before I commit.

Upgrading from Giant Twist Esprit Power

I’m likely to be upgrading my current bike (a Giant Twist Esprit Power) in a few months, and I’m looking for a few tips / thoughts about my options. I’ve done around 8000 miles on the Giant, mostly commuting, and it’s been great – but now I’ve had a couple of years’ experience of riding a...
