This is a Freego Regency, about 6 years old and still powering along...except for this. Is anything to be done with it . Nothing seems to work. Is it possible to replace with a newer LCD?

IMHO, you'd be better off replacing both the controller and the control panel with a KT set for about £70 to £80, which will give a much more pleasant riding experience. You would have to do a bit of wiring and soldering.

You can't directly replace your control panel with an LCD one.

You can get cheap controller and LCD sets for around £40, though not as good as KT.

Ebikes Direct had some spares for Freego after the company folded, but they do not stock KT stuff. PSWPower is a company many here have used.
This controller will work with your bike along with a new LCD3 display.
You will be able to reuse your PAS sensor, throttle and brake cut outs, but you will need a speed sensor.
If you don't want to deal direct with Chinese company, then Torque Tech in the UK should have what you need and will help answer any questions you have before ordering, but will cost more.

I would expect your "expert" to be familiar with these parts if he/she knows their stuff. Be wary if they offer cheaper alternatives and tell you they are the same, they won't be. You will be amazed at the difference the KT controller makes to the way your bike rides and is well worth the small extra cost.

This is my man: "Hi, I'm Stuart and this is my workshop. I'm a Cytech 2 qualified technician with a lifetime of experience repairing and maintaining bikes, including 7 years working as a professional bike mechanic for several reputable bike specialists." I will insist on the KT controller. Again thanks.

But he's not an ebike or kit specialist like us.

Torquetech.co.uk sell Kt stuff or simply look on Aliexpress, topbikekit or greenbikekit for kt stuff.

any of the KT displays will work from any supplier but not any ole display from another brand.

Is your battery capable of 25a continuous should it be asked for ?
If not one can limit the current via the display settings.

Be aware this controller is too large to fit in the compartment below the battery. You will have to mount it elsewhere on the bike in a bag or similar. This one will fit.
The LCD3 is a popular choice of display, or the smaller LCD4.

So, got the bike back yesterday. He fitted a KT controller & a KT LCD, and I must say it feels like a new bike, hardly need the throttle. He was so impressed with it on the test drive the he says he will now recommend KT to his customers. Thank you all.

Pleased you are now sorted and happy with the upgrade, most folks are tempted to go for the cheaper brainpower stuff but they are simply not as good or user friendly as the KT. Plus KT are so universal nearly everyone seems to sell them on Aliexpress as well as all the china.coms.

Glad to hear you are impressed with your "new" bike. It's a shame most manufacturers, inc. Freego fit such poor control systems to their bikes, it's the main reason hub drive bikes get such bad press and people are convinced to buy expensive mid drive machines that most do not need.
