Trouble fitting Crossfire I motor to Crossfire II bike

Hi, I have a Crossfire II with the dreaded E42 motor error. I also have a spare working Crossfire 1 motor wheel. The problem I have is that the Gen 1 motor has sockets for female pins in the motor side connector & the Gen II motor has Male pins in the same motor connector. I therefore have 2 female connectors when I try and fit the Gen 1 motor to the bike. Has anyone else come across this problem & solved it, or does anyone know of a gender changer I can buy?

Did the manufacturer change the connector specifically to indicate incompatibility?

They may have done . Hopefully someone on here can advise.
