    Wisper Launch Carbon XC Tourer

Good luck with the bike, David. My curiosity has got the better of me with this one - what have those fiendishly clever tyre technologists at Kenda come up with?

    Tongxin motor in non-steel forks

Personally I would want to have a torque arm if the forks were other than steel. I recall how the motor started to chew up the aluminium rear drop-outs of my old Wisper after just a couple of hundred miles, before I fitted a torque arm. Instances of drop-out failure from this cause are not...

How do I wire up eCrazyman controller to Tongxin please

I hope so but in truth it is too early to tell as I've not done as many miles on the eC one as the Tongxin ones which have blown. My Tongxin ones have tended to last 1-300 miles and my first eC one has done about 140 (of which about 85 miles were done under challenging conditions in one day...

How do I wire up eCrazyman controller to Tongxin please

Andy - sorry for giving you the wrong steer! It sounds like you do have a motor with sensors, as Nick correctly inferred at the top of the thread. It was late at night right before I went on holiday when I saw your post so I didn't have time to look into it properly - and was consequently...

Best place to buy Tongxin motors ?

It would be cheaper than a Cytronex, but not as good! The Cytronex uses better base bikes and Mark is down the learning curve on fitting the electrics. He also takes a decent gross margin - which he deserves as he has been an innovator in the market. I wouldn't over-estimate the...

How do I wire up eCrazyman controller to Tongxin please

It's not quite as bad as it sounds as most of the wires are the same colour as Tongxins. They do use the 'obscure connector trick' - but I just cut them off in any case!

Why weren’t more people on the 100 Mile Challenge?

Midweek event was what would have made me stay away, with travel to a corner of the country, until I managed to combine it with a couple of other things and make a long weekend of it! Even if a weekend isn't possible, a friday or even mon / thurs would generally be better than a wednesday for...

How do I wire up eCrazyman controller to Tongxin please

Nick, I can see why you would think of sensors with 5 wires, but the sensorless eC controller has that configuration! Andy, best to do as you are and wait for Keywin to confirm, but assuming yours came with the pedelec sensor and you asked for a sensorless one (and have a sensorless motor)...

How do I wire up eCrazyman controller to Tongxin please

Andy, This is from a quick look at my notes as I am going to be away for a few days and won't have time to look at it properly. Comments in italics eCrazyman Controller Battery Red to eC Controller Red Black to eC Controller Black Yes I don't know what the thin red eC...

    Ching Challenge

Nick, Glad you had a good day in the end. It was a shame to loose you to the evil puncture fairy and have to compete with all the Ezees on my own! You will enjoy Porlock Hill... You would have got up the other side the quickest with your lighter bike and decent low gears - as we were all...

Which brushless hub motors have freewheel?

This is why the Tongxin is out on its own. The resistance is near negligible. A year or so ago, when I was between normal bikes and Tongxin controllers I rode my bike with Tongxin in the front hub but without power on a couple of long trips. I didn't bother to change the front wheel as there...

    Ching Challenge

Conal's post illustrates a good point - that this ride really pushed e-bikes to their limits so it was good to see what they could achieve. The main group of us stopped half way down Porlock Hill to let our brakes cool, and they were red hot - both rims and discs. When we stopped half way...

    Ching Challenge

I bet he was! The funny thing is that Nick had all these batteries so we assumed that he would be using them to go at high speed up the hills. We actually saw him pushing his bike up a hill and so his average speed seemed to be higher because he had a more relaxed attitude to braking when...

    Ching Challenge

Nick, The views from above Porlock, from where we could see what felt like half of Wales, were fantastic! The cycle analyst data was also interesting, and I had updates from Phil and Andy (we cycled round in a group together) on how many Ah they had used at various points round the...

    E-Bike advice

In which case I would not advise buying one of those bikes if you plan to use it much as getting a replacement 8-speed freewheel in the ratios you want will be holy grail stuff!

    E-Bike advice

My local bike shop has two of them on display for the last couple of months. They look very smart. I asked the chap in the shop how many they had sold and he said 'one'. One thing that intrigued me was that they seem to have an 8-speed cassette combined with a rear motor. Is that possible...

    Ching Challenge

Just thought I'd post a few words on the Ching Challenge, which several of us enjoyed doing yesterday. I'm sure others will add more details and pictures soon but here are some short highlights. Glorious weather in Exmoor - bright sunshine all day. Eight of us set off on the challenge and...

    The 100 Mile Challenge

Nick, Maybe you are being too modest! I don't want to tempt fate but I've just checked the forecast for that part of the world and there are some clouds every day until Wednesday when the forecast is for sun all day! Frank

Sourcing Tongxin and other components from China

This is what Tongxin specifies - probably based on the Chinese market (?) - but we all overgear to get higher speeds. More likely to be the slightly lower voltage of the NiMH battery. My 175rpm Tongxin in a 700c wheel assists to a bit over 16mph with a Ping LiFePO4.

    The 100 Mile Challenge

Nick, I'm heading down to Devon on Saturday morning, to visit some friends and do a little bike ride to get loosened up for next Wednesday. Is there any info I need to get beforehand (eg route), or anything else I should bring? Or will it all become clear when we assemble on Tuesday...
