Case studies - how has your electric bike changed your life?

Nothing sensational here, I'm afraid ... we have push-bikes and do all our local shopping on them. Plus some leisure and some work. We wanted a folding cycle for some uses eg fetching the car after a night in the pub and a taxi home. My wife suggested a Brompton. I got us an electric folding...

    Cyclamatic powerplus battery problems...anyone else?

If I was to be awkward and still like to charge to 80%, how would I go about it? I now have two batteries and deliberately keep the second one at less than full charge (40% charge is said to be be best for long term storage). However, I can only do that by putting it away after having done a...

Project: Create a cheap but safe battery box

How many batteries can you pack together before you get over-heating problems?

    Another Battery tale of woe

I have something very similar to yourself, a no-name Chinese folder ... may I ask how much use you got out of the original battery? Were you using it every day, how many miles? How long was it before you realised the battery was getting tired - did you get, say, 2 good years and the third year...

Advice sought for suitable workstand for step thro Woosh

Same one I've got (though I'm sure it was more when I had it on my Xmas list?) Makes a huge difference - and I often leave different cycles there purely in order I can admire them. The professionals commonly cheat and simply hook the saddle of the bike over the arm - I often copy them...

Did you know Raleigh are offering £100 Discount off their Ebikes for August ?

My mate went to the Raleigh factory in 1986 to pick up a bicycle for round the world riding. He recalled there being great empty bays but the production line had not been moved and wended its way through the empty parts.

Did you know Raleigh are offering £100 Discount off their Ebikes for August ?

Triumph Motorcycles set up a German plant between the wars and it went back into production in the 1950s as the TWN (I had one of their very un-British split-single two-strokes). Do we know Raleigh gmbh is not loosely descended from Raleigh Company?

Sigh. I don't think I can live with bicycle mirrors. I fitted it and then immediately wanted to throw the cycle in the car and took it off again without ever having tested it.

    Pedelec Boom Continues

I'm on the side of the 'elf and safety on this one - graveyards should be safe places, and tottering old ladies should be able to put out their hand and safely balance themselves by grasping a head-stone. For every death there must be 50 broken legs and 10 broken hips (a death sentence). And...

Can anyone recommend a good mirror? They're essential on motorcycles but I've never got on with them on bicycles. They need to be strong but not sharp edged (look at motorcycle mirrors!) And must have convex glass (some cycle ones are flat and utterly useless!)

I have a Cyclamatic Foldaway electric cycle and its brilliant. I have a Cyclamatic bicycle indicator thing (b-day present!) and its a menace. Indicators lead you to do all the wrong things - and that's if you remember to switch them on before you leave the house and if you remember to switch...

Yet Another London Cyclist Death Today

As others have said, this is about the most dangerous situation you can get yourself into on a cycle (a woman was killed not far from me 3 or 4 years ago). If an artic (or a cement mixer truck) does this to you, your life depends on getting wholly out of his way - jumping the lights if...

I'm not sure why the Pedelec electrics should interfere. Digital systems are mostly resistant to interference - does your mobile crackle? Well, no!

Yet Another London Cyclist Death Today

If we're serious about reducing cycling injuries, we need better facilities. But there are other things we have to do for ourselves - recognise that the only safe way to cross a busy junction is to manage the traffic behind us and force it to protect our back ... or pull over onto the...

Yes. Get off and push. The cyclist who expects traffic to slow down for them does us no credit. Either force them to take notice, demanding their attention, or else get completely out of their way, preferably onto the pavement.

What, a pedestrian on a shared path suddenly moved over into the path of a cyclist? I trust the pedestrian was prosecuted!

Yet Another London Cyclist Death Today

Hold on, the great majority of these deaths are pedestrians who have stepped into the road in front of the cyclist. Rather few are caused by reckless cycling on the pavement. Care to tell us what happened in this case, and perhaps avoid giving the impression that cyclists are a menace...

    Cycle computer help

We rapidly converted from wired to wireless mileometers some 8 or 10 years ago and we may still have all the same ones we started buying then. I can't be sure because we used to worry they'd be stolen, lose them, buy another and find the first one! Some of them have or had back then...
