Any thoughts about brompton nano conversion.

Now there's an idea - Lots of things to check for compatibility. Has anyone done this? I do like the idea of the Bosch 4AH battery, but that could be a later change (I've already got a Bosch battery lawnmower that uses one, so I'd only need a mounting plate). Mike

Any thoughts about brompton nano conversion.

I have a GSM crank drive conversion on my normal-sized bike, but it's a bit too heavy and cumbersome to load into the caravan when we go away. I'm toying with the idea of fitting a conversion to my elderly Brompton L5. The one thing that's putting me off is a vague recollection from somewhere...

No keys... can I still use bike?

Any decent locksmith would be able to open the lock and make a key to fit, but they'll almost certainly want to see some sort of receipt. Sent from my SGP311 using Tapatalk

    Upgrading brakes on converted bike

d8veh, I realise that it's a bit daft fitting a hub dynamo to a bike with a big battery, but the battery's 36V, the lights are 6V, and I can't find an easy way of getting a feed from the battery to the lights. The controller on the GSM kit doesn't have a light output feed and I don't fancy...

    Upgrading brakes on converted bike

I'm planning on rebuilding the front wheel. At the moment it's got a Shimano hub dynamo; I plan to get a new dynamo with rotor mounting holes. It's interesting that you seem to be suggesting hydraulic. Is it significantly better than cable? Mike Sent from my SGP311 using Tapatalk

    Upgrading brakes on converted bike

HI, All, I have a Raleigh Pioneer utility bike with 7 speed shimano hub gears, to which I've added a GSM motor and HL battery from Whoosh. I've found that the combination of my weight (a bit on the wrong side of 16st), the increase in weight from the motor and the battery, and the increase in...

    More GSM advice please.

After doing some googling, I came to the conclusion that the correct torque wrench setting for the crank bolts (the ones that hold the crank arms to the bottom bracket spindle) was 40 Nm. Since tightening mine to that figure, I've had no more problems with them coming loose. HTH Mike

    Routine service of GSM kit

I can't find any information about servicing the GSM kit, such as what needs doing, and how often. I'm assuming that day to day cleaning, checking tightness of fixings and connectors supplemented by occasional regreasing is about all that can be done. I'm also assuming that the regreasing can be...

    Gsm vs bbs01

I get the power bar on empty but bike still working, but it only ever happens just after setting off. Switching off & back on always cures it, and it never recurs when riding.

    Gsm vs bbs01

For an independent view of speed, you could try using one of the GPS-based speedo apps on a smartphone.

    Gsm vs bbs01

I found that the problem was worst on slightly undulating roads. The motor would help me to get up to 15 mph on an uphill bit, but then when I went a bit faster because the gradient had levelled off, the motor cut out. Increasing the speed limit didn't actually make me go any faster; it just...

    Gsm vs bbs01

I assume that you're talking about the GSM kit and yes, mine does that. I got around it by increasing the maximum speed to something a bit higher.

    Gsm vs bbs01

Been using mine on and off since October. No real issues, just some annoyances that I've mentioned before, but then I've only done a couple of hundred miles in total, and the longest ride was probably only about 10 miles. My biggest concern is that with my weight (a bit over 100 kg), the extra...

    Gsm vs bbs01

I have a GSM kit fitted to a bike with a Shimano Nexus 7 speed hub gear. The gears seem to handle the power fine. You do need to release the chain tension (ease off the pedalling) to allow the gears to change, but that's the same without assist. There's a slight whine from the motor, but that's...

Can I tweak this motor to get a bit more out of it?

The controller doesn't set a speed limit, it sets a limit on wheel revolutions per minute. If you cheat by telling it that the wheel diameter is less than it really is, the max speed will increase.

    Fitting the GSM kit

Don't have a problem getting enough torque - currently bolts are at ~ 40Nm, which is about as tight as I dare go - don't want to risk stripping the thread on the motor spindle. There doesn't seems to be a recommended figure in the fitting instructions. I think that blue loctite is probably the...

    Fitting the GSM kit

No problems specifically with the kit, but a few unexpected things: 1. I find that the left crank keeps coming loose. I've tightened it as tightly as I dare, but it still keeps coming loose. I've mended a lot of bikes over the years, and never had this problem. Perhaps I need to buy some thread...

    What's my wheel diameter?

I have done, and the distances for my regular journeys now seem about right - so the answer seems to be to use the actual rolling diameter.

    What's my wheel diameter?

Indeed I did mean circumference. Don't think you could fit a chain drive kit to a penny farthing cos it didn't have a chain :-)

    What's my wheel diameter?

I know it seems a silly question, but looking around 'tinterweb it's not that easy. Really the question is "what wheel diameter should I program into the controller of my new GSM kit"? The manual for the 800S LCD says that I can choose between 16/18/20/22/24/26/700C/28/29, although the beast...
