A 36v 10ah battery will easily do the 17 mile trip, mine almost got me back home so it did over 30 miles. However, if I was going to commute that distance I'd either charge it at work or take a spare. I wouldn't like to run flat on the way home from work.

I have a Kudos bike. The charger light is red when you first start charging, then as you've noticed it flickers red/green. If you leave it on it will eventually stay green. I don't know if it's fully charged when it's flickering but it will eventually stay green.

This has happened to me 3 times lately. It turns out it's my foot catching the chain as I pedal. I must be sitting differently these days. I had the seat tube out so maybe I've not got the seat straight.
