No matter how careful you are....

Interesting comments. My thoughts are, that it was a couple of youths, one with the gun and 'egged on' by the other to take a pop shot at the tyres but missed. They had probably been mis-using the gun all afternoon, so goodness knows where pellets may have been fired. I have never liked...

No matter how careful you are....

....someone is out to get you...... Hi everyone I thought you all might like to hear what happened to a work colleague of mine yesterday. He normally drives but because of the snow, he couldn't get his car out of the drive, so he decided to cycle. On leaving work at around 3.30pm he took a path...

    E-Bike Fuel Gauge

Where did you buy the meter NRG? the link on the ES thread suggests you can buy them for $12, shipping came out at $30 though:(

Alien Gents Special II - Improvments and Modifications

Yes that is what the pulsing is...the controllers response. Reading about them, it appears the CA ramps down the throttle signal voltage so there is less on/off pulses (hysterisis) and much smooth control. I ran into trouble with my current limiter because i was unware that the controller was...

    E-Bike Fuel Gauge

That is very neat. I usually have a turnigy meter cable tied temporarly to the handlebars with a few feet of heavy cable. I also have a spare shunt resister that would do for a project like this or i guess i could connect it to the shunt in my controller. Is the meter waterproof do you think...

Alien Gents Special II - Improvments and Modifications

As i am understanding it....the throttle signal makes the controller reduce PWM smoothly, but also sets a threshold of current limit which does block current flow...hence the pulsing of the on/off current limit i am experiencing with my lastest controller. I have no way of adjusting this...

    Alfine Testicles

Ah yes! 'Sturmey Archer testicles'....i remember suffering that on more than a few occasions. But being a young lad at the time didn't make it quite so severe as it might be now.....if you know what i mean. Not had any experiance of Alfine testicles though.....luckily. 'spose i the older i get...

    Bike light battery warning

Good tip, my brother has one of these cell packs with his light. It's probably the same. P7 SSC ?

Alien Gents Special II - Improvments and Modifications

This is a good thread to revisit, if NRG doesn't mind of course :) Reading your comment over and over, i 'm not sure what you mean. What is 'scaling back' and 'overiding the throttle'. Do you mean reducing the duty cycle of the PWM? By overiding throttle, you mean when current levels exceed...

    Covered E Trike

Thats exactly what i was thinking. I've had a few ideas of biulding something like this only more low and swoopy like the bluesky aerocoupe Blue Sky Design. I guess it would have to be registered as a trike, pass the new BIVA test, tax insurance and mot. All possible, but where can you use it...

Alien Gents Special II - Improvments and Modifications

Jbond 26.1 mph no load speed(as posted earlier) Don't go for Tongxin unless you have a box of spare parts, good motors apart from the reliablities issues. Is this the thread you were looking for? http://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/electric-bicycles/4263-tongxin-current-limiter.html I think you...

Alien Gents Special II - Improvments and Modifications

Yesterday i went for a short ride, my 'pub on the hill' route. On the way back i took note of some speed measurements. My current setup is a standard no name/no label 36V 250W sensorless dual speed controller as recieved from evassemble. A 260rpm Tongxin hub (meant for a 20" rim). 36volt 5ah...

Alien Gents Special II - Improvments and Modifications

Well i'm sorry to report that there is no increase in max speed by changing controllers. Reading the previous posts by jbond, i believe he is correct. Whether it is back emf, simply the motor has reached it's maximum speed because it cannot draw anymore current without increased voltage, i have...

Alien Gents Special II - Improvments and Modifications

Mmmmm interesting....... For my own benefit (and others), i was really interested in the difference between my 12A tongxin controllers and my dual mode 15A controllers. So i took the controller and hub into work today and had a play. I have also discovered that the dual mode controller also...

Alien Gents Special II - Improvments and Modifications

I've corrected the Tongxin controller frequency after looking up my previous notes when i tested it. Tomorrow i will see what my standard 2-mode controllers give with a bafang hub. I don't have a 'scope at home unfortunately. I noted (unscientifically) that they will reach 18.6mph...

Alien Gents Special II - Improvments and Modifications

I 've been reading this with interest. I can say that my tongxin controller gives a frequency of 90hz. It doesn't offer any other modes. The same controller runs a bafang8fun hub at 15mph. It will also run my other 260rpm hub at 23mph(in a 26" wheel). Considering the rpm of the motors before...

Controller strategies - Constant speed or constant power?

Jbond, correct, the controller doesn't know how much power is being taken from the battery. There are conditions where a lot more power is being used you are probably unaware of...usually at low speed. Backing off the throttle will reduce power, but if yours is anything like mine, it's either...
