MXUS 350w on Giant Trance build

I could have done with a photo of a fitted torque arm like yours a few months ago, great tips too. I don't like the way I've fitted mine and was looking at it this weekend and have opted to redesign and make a bespoke one specific for my bike fittings. Will update my thread when mines fitted too.

MXUS 350w on Giant Trance build

Nice job eHomer. I particularly like your idea of putting the controller in a diecast alum case and using that as a heatsink, I have been pondering over how to get my controller out of the small bag but keeping it waterproof myself and may borrow your idea.

How about widths? My hybrid commuter was supplied with 35c tyres, I get the impression because the MP's weigh 3x more than my current tyres they are a bit larger. Should I stick to the 35 widths or maybe drop to 32's ? My rims will go down to 25. Whats the usual road commuting width recommended?

Thanks for the replies. Thats a great article. I think standard Marathon Plus Commuter's are the ones for me since I have no gravel/dirt tracks to benefit from the deeper looking 'Tour treads. Those thorn proof inner tubes look tempting too.

I have been advised by someone who used to regularly ride my route to be prepared for punctures regularly from the bushes thorns especially when farmers trim the hedges. The tyres I have on now are called Kenda Happy Medium which appear thin, I have read advice on this forum that Marathon Plus...

its too cold, or i am too feeble

A pair of cheapish ski gloves (come with thin liners too) from sportsdirect helped my frozen fingers in the -3 degrees but as pointed out I need to hang my hands down and move the fingers about occasionally which helps. As for the tear's down the face, work safety specs like these ones are...

New light bracket made to move it below the stem out of the way, light changed as I've damaged the other at the moment and diffuser lens recommended in another thread added. Thanks for the comments, I have also ordered end bull-bars as suggested by DC as I do occasionally find myself wanting to...

    Commuter Bike Build

I found the flaw in my light bracket design for anyone thinking of making one similar, as pointed out by D C, I upturned the bike to investigate a squeaking and guess what took the brunt of the bike weight as it was not removable. That didn't break anything but made the light come loose and...

    Battery Waterproofing

Since it's done nothing but rain for my first couple weeks I thought I would do a quick update. The showercap idea works a treat complete with a reflective band and elastic band, or even a couple of elastic bands to help keep it in place. Also a carrier bag works a treat used in the same way...

    Commuter Bike Build

The back country lanes are pitch black at 6am and 6pm (no street lamps)so good job I purchased a 3xcree led front light as recommended on this forum. The problem I had with it was being attached by a simple elastic band, as I went over bumps the light would rotate back, also pressing the button...

    Commuter Bike Build

House move done, new route for regular commute to work found and practised. This is what the bike was built for, 10 miles consisting of 7 miles back country lanes,2 miles cycle path across town and 1 mile normal roads. I used to drive 30 miles to work, now cycle 10, then the same back home. The...

    centre stand

Pletscher center kickstand seems good and solid, although not variable adjustable you have to cut to length and is quite heavy for what it is but I guess that's where the strength is. Folds up to one side too. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B004XFHSLC/ref=oh_details_o06_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

    Measuring Battery Charge

Is there a way to tell how much charge is left in my battery with one of those cheap yellow multimeters? How have others been measuring how much watt hours or amps still left in battery before a recharge is required? I have not ridden my new future commute yet and won't be for a few weeks but...

    Battery Waterproofing

Some great ideas there, I bought some of these shower caps, 10 for a quid and they fit over the bottle battery fine. Don't know how stay-onable in the wind they will be but are worth a try and easy to stuff in a pocket...

    Battery Waterproofing

I'm probably going to be cycling in heavy rain at some point and am not convinced my bottle battery is waterproof, I mean even around the led lights at the top, these seem loose and water could easily run into there. Are these batterries more waterproof than they appear? or should I be covering...

It took about 3 week for the battery to arrive and it seems to work fine, I would use BMSbattery again. You can track it with fedex around the globe from China too. Don't know about customs, not had any letter from fedex yet so it may have slipped through.
