Specialist e-bike retail businesses at risk as insurers hike policies (despite data showing no blame)

Yep... there is no evidence of any collusion, but I see no other logical explanation why you can't buy insurance. Anyway it is how I would do it if I were an oligarch billionaire and wanted to protect my interests.

Petrol lobby is doing what they can to protect their profits. Insurers are clearly in their camp. For example you can't buy insurance for speed pedelecs.

I am a newbie when it comes to electric mountain bikes

Just to make sure all is clear... You are looking at very expensive MOUNTAIN bikes. From what you are saying you might need more a relaxed step through e-bike (like in my avatar) to enjoy easy ride. It doesn't seem like you are looking a right tool for the job.

You don't need to convert this Bergamont. It is already electric and it is VERY fancy. Pay £2000 and send me £1000 as a token of gratitude for good advice.

DVSA Market Surveillance apparently ramping up illegal eBike investigations

The whole point is - there are no illegal e-bikes in UK, so how they can carry out illegal bikes investigations? It is all just a waste of taxpayer money. Lets assume all your bikes had 1kW rated motors. What would they do? You can sell them and I can buy them. What is illegal about that? Or...

Yes, this bike is built like a tank. Cosmic specs comparing to our clankers. How does it ride? I simply don't know. It is beyond my paygrade. Edit: Another place to buy: https://www.runandride.co.uk/bikes/electric-bikes/bergamont-e-trailster-150-expert-ebike-green__28517
