    To make you feel better this bike was brand new and £1000 RRP. I butchered frame of my MTB even more to install TSDZ8.

Every cyclist must learn some basic maintenance IMO, but at the end of the day it is up to a person to make a decision - buy an e-bike or maybe invest some time and energy into DIY.     The big difference is that gaming computers usually have open architecture with easily replaceable components. When something goes wrong out of warranty with proprietary e-bike then you are FCUKed. ...but you are right. Time spent on build and experience should be taken into account.

    I think most people buy illegal bikes due to ignorance. They just don't know that legal 250W rated motor might be more powerful than 500W rated one.

    In your case the bigger the better. You really don't want to run out of juice in the middle of nowhere. You can even make an experiment and try to pedal up hill without assistance ;) Maybe this one if you can install it safely...
