Save up? What planet are you on? Food inflation is running at up to 50% on some items. Electric and Gas prices are extortionate and mortgage interest rates are back at 6%. Renting is no better. In the meantime, wages have not kept pace at all. Saving in this country is not an option for most...

Probable cause, not proven...jumping to conclusions? All too easy to blame an e-bike when there is a fire?

36V Powabyke. Help required please with motor issue.

That's a really good way of getting into e-bikes, pick up an old cheap bike and experiment. You will learn a lot. The Powabyke was a terrible bike, BUT, it was of its time and a pioneer for e-biking in this country. With a little modernisation it can be made into a good utility bike. I would...

All very well, in your case. Great that you have done away with having a car. However, you say you are about bums on saddles, but then you are in effect excluding people who can't afford expensive bikes. What is your suggestion for people who can't afford to spend more than say about £150 on a...

I agree, I am not against people spending a lot of money on bikes if they can afford it and it makes them happy. What I don't like is the kind of mentality that can seep in where unless you are prepared to spend a lot of money you get looked down upon.

You are right, you shouldn't have to, but in my experience you have to if you want peace of mind. If your pack is doing something suspect, I'd investigate it further before something bad happens.

36V Powabyke. Help required please with motor issue.

If funds permit, think about upgrading to a modern brushless motor and a lithium battery. It significantly improves the bike. Much lighter and longer range and quieter. That's what I did with mine. Also, as it is pre 2016, you can keep the throttle and comply with the rules. I have an original...

    3 dead in fire

If your battery is on the verge of meltdown at only 2A, it sounds like something is wrong and it needs checking. Even chargers bought from reputable suppliers can be out of range on voltage. I would check this on a calibrated voltmeter. I check all chargers I get these days just to be sure.

That's not at all what I am recommending. My point earlier on in this thread was that depending on a particular person's situation, even if they did get a new bike every year, they would be better off financially than spending several thousand on an expensive bike and then hundreds per year for...

    Throttle hidden switch

That's interesting to know. My Yose kits were bought around 18 months back. I'm glad now I didn't go for getting the spare rear hub controller recently. I doubt I'll be buying any more Yose kits if they are locked down like this and I'll stick to fully KT compatible systems.

    Throttle hidden switch

I've got 3 Yose power 250W front wheel kits, two for 26", one for 20" wheel size. They have the C500 LCD. It is no problem setting the max speed to higher than 15.5 mph. However, due to the way motors work - for a given voltage, they will only rotate so fast. For 36V nominal, this is about 19...

Following on from my introduction to this forum I have questions

I would say these days you want to spend around £150 or so to be able to get a decent bike - due to inflation over the last couple of years. I think you would struggle to get a new bike these days for £100, unless you buy end of range deals or in a sale. But even a lot of sub £150 bikes are...

I have been around quite a while and have met people who have had a range of different experiences. I would not use the phrase "loads of people..." Or, "all XXX did YYY", just as I would be very surprised if you told me every expensive bike and component you have bought over the years has worked...

    Current yose kit build

Looks good except the rack. That'll have to go :) It's a shame the frame doesn't seem to have bolt holes on the rear diagonal tubes to accommodate a rack. Is there a bolt hole to fit the top of the mudguard that you can use to support a conventional rack?

Following on from my introduction to this forum I have questions

Ideally you wouldn't throw away a bike every year and get a new one, the chances are it would last a lot longer, even with cheap components and minimal maintenance. Also, in the second year it would be cheaper to start upgrading components, eg brakes, which seems to be the worst part on cheap...

Loads of data out there in the public domain. You can see how the pollution is worst along main roads and how bad it is even in the extended ULEZ: https://data.london.gov.uk/air-quality/

But not NOx. I's not just a case of once on a dry sunny day, it's all day, all year round and then looking over the data properly. This has been done and it shows the air in London is bad and something needs to be done about it to prevent premature deaths and other conditions such as Alzheimer's.

Following on from my introduction to this forum I have questions

I know people have spent serious money on bikes, gone for a few rides and then left them in the shed unused because they were pushed into a certain direction by sales staff and ended up with a bike that didn't suit. Also, some people I know bought a bike, rode to work a few times, got the crap...

    Most efficient travel

The underground is full of all sorts of crap. It's been around since the 19th century. Wouldn't want to spend much time in it. The trains are electric now, but the contacts are open and they spark and arc all over the place, filling the air with ozone, iron oxide particles and carbon dust. I...

Don't worry, we all have to start somewhere :) When you turn the pedals to activate the PAS, the motor will kick in and assist you. What decides the amount of power that comes from the battery is the amount of assist you have requested on the controller (this could be 0 to 5, sometimes 0 to 6)...
