    Brexit, for once some facts.

I don't think it's electioneering. I believe it's desperation. Brexit is proving increasingly disastrous, so they are prepared to take bigger risks to try to turn round the economy. It won't work, foreign businesses are never going to fall for such a simple ploy. It will need something far...

Great safety signs from Northumberland county council. Any other councils doing anything like it?

Yes, the increase in cycling has to be consistent and year round to maintain awareness. It's difficult for me to judge for elsewhere since I'm in the cycling and pedestrian intensive area of London and immediate surroundings. Where there's huge numbers of cyclists year round as here and in...

Great safety signs from Northumberland county council. Any other councils doing anything like it?

True, but it will get continuously better as cycling numbers increase. That's certainly been our experience in London, and the more recent Covid increase in cycling in my southern home counties has also brought about more consideration for cyclists. .

Driver passes too close despite lollipop on passing side

I'm not quite sure you addressed me when you were replying to Guerney? However, I wish you'd been in my car with me this morning on a South London trip between South Croydon and a part of Beckenham. This being London and the day sunny and pleasant, there were quite a few cyclists about and the...

Great safety signs from Northumberland county council. Any other councils doing anything like it?

We had similar space for cycling campaigns in London in the 1990s, but not with road signs. It was with full page adverts on all London newspapers and on London's TV channels. All reminders help, and the asking for co-operation is welcome, much better than threats of fines etc that just get...

    Hi there

Hi Bob, welcome to the forum. To explain in answer to your query: Cycling speeds in Britain, like yours, are unusually high for recent historical reasons which I won't go into at present. In addition, cycling and assisted cycling isn't anywhere near as commonplace as it is in many other...

why is this even up for debate?

Read and learn Like so many laws, that law has various exceptions which you are apparently unaware of. Many of the rules = Only some You may be fined = You may not you may be sent to prison = You may not In other words, there is no must about it. .

What you did then was perfectly legal, since you did it out of fear of the traffic. That is still the case, see this link and read it all. .

It will never happen of course, all we ever get from government is half cocked measures that are ill thought out and often then ignored, forgotten or withdrawn. I made the point about the Covid fines, but it seems no-one saw the relevance, so to explain: We were told that separation and mask...

That was very dangerous passing, way beyond lacking due care and attention. Trouble with cameras at night is they are so easily dazzled by headlights from front or behind they often can't record the number plates clearly. .

The assumption is yours, that is completely the opposite of my life, since I made the decision at 16 to never to be bored by sticking with just one job longer than necessary to perform it well. Given the simplicity of so many jobs, I lost count of how many jobs I've had very long ago. That jnb...

Front hub conversion on vintage delivery bike. Battery suggestions and best motor query

Small world. My job was with Ralphs the Butchers in Charminster Road, the other side of the road from today's Crescent Suzuki and same side as Crescent Yamaha. And when I left school my first motor trade job was with Crescent, way back in 1950. .

I've also witnessed the good and bad cycling behaviours you describe, but only to a very limited extent since almost all my movement now is in South London and the immediate home counties of Surrey and Kent, Perhaps oddly in this very crowded region, we commonly have the opposite of that I've...

No, I'm saying it is always possible, just very inconvenient at times like Her Majesty's invitation. Coming out of the army very long ago I had seven years of constantly moving and hated it. But it was necessary so I bore the costs and hardships involved which ultimately paid off handsomely...

why is this even up for debate?

As I've already replied to you, I'm not speaking of that case. If someone refuses to state the principle they stand on, then clearly it's perversity. .

I've no idea whether he did or didn't. I'm commenting on the number of these cases that have suddenly cropped up due to unfair political misuse of the highway code. Yesterday there was no offence, suddenly there is an alleged offence occasioning illegal penalty accumulations. If something is...

All you've done with circular argument is prove the code is not law, only being wrongly being treated as law, the very point I was making. Moving on, I quote: must leave at least 1.5m when overtaking cyclists at speeds up to 30mph, What a nonsense that is when (a) it often isn't possible so...
