    Any ideas? Thanks in advance

If the mosfet test fails then you will need a new controller. It is possible to replace the mosfets, but I don’t think that is something you could do. And there is no guarantee that will fix the problem because other more delicate components in the controller could also be damaged. If the...

    Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Mosfets have two modes of failure, they can go either open circuit or short circuit. A typical failure in a motor controller is a mosfet going short circuit and the simple test that Neal linked to will tell you that in just a few minutes. We see a lot of people on this forum replace parts...

ike = bike. It would be useful if you can post a photo of the label on the controller. If you do decide to replace the controller it would be easier if you could get exactly the same, otherwise you may need to do some rewiring, which isn’t easy when you have to run wires through the frame.

You could try that if you don‘t have the ability to test the controller properly. But you still could end up having the same problem. And create even more if you buy the wrong controller/display combination. If you have a multimeter and know how to use it, you can do some simple tests to...

Have you examined all of the connectors to make sure the pins are in good condition? I use a magnifying glass for this.

It’s worth disconnecting all of the connectors for a visual inspection to examine the pins. It is not uncommon for the JST connectors to have a bad connection. Sometimes just unplugging and plugging back in again fixes the problem. I’m not a fan of using silicon sealant on those connectors...

Yes, yellow, green and blue large wires are the motor phase wires. The small wires going into the black connector are: Red = 5 volts Black = 0 volts Blue, Yellow, Green = hall sensor outputs from motor White = Speed or Temperature sensor output from motor

Yes you can do that. There is a mechanical switch under the cover.

They can either be 2 or 3 wires. There is probably already a connector somewhere, it’s just that you haven’t found it yet.

They won’t disconnect from the top. There may be a cable connector lower down the cable going into the controller. If you are unlucky, the brake switches will be hard wired into the controller, making it even more difficult to fault find.

Now that you have removed your controller you can open it up and do a mosfet test. Checking for short circuits is easy and with a little bit of YouTube research you can do an open circuit test as well. That will either confirm or eliminate them. And you can also do a continuity test on your...

Why don’t you ask Jimmy at Insat what the maximum current that you battery can deliver? Then you will know the biggest controller you can fit. And then you can plug that information into the Grin simulator to see how well your motor will perform.

    Bafang Rear Hub Motor Questions

You need to know the maximum current the battery can deliver. If you fit a bigger controller that takes a higher current than the battery can deliver you will ruin the battery. Your motor is easily capable of 1000 watts, but only if the other components are rated high enough. You can use the...

There are many videos on youtube explaining how to test mosfets using an ordinary multimeter. It’s quite difficult to explain in a post. You need to activate and deactivate the gate and check the source and drain turn on and off. And to do that you need to open up the controller. And make sure...

Ebike Motors, whats your experience??????? is yours suffering.

Some of the blown controllers and displays I have seen posted on here are due to water ingress. Most are due to people wiring them up wrong and then post saying why does my controller and display not work.
