I think a big influence on battery life is down to riders weight? Yesterday wife and I did 12 miles climbing to the top (and down) of the Black Mountains. Wifes bike (she's 54kgs) had 72 per cent left, mine (I'm 75kgs) had 64 pc remaining. We've never used more than 75 pc in a days riding off...

    Be gentle with me...

Yours is the bike I wanted but couldn't have 'cause I had to buy the wife one as well! Looks like you'll be having to buy your wife one soon?

Getting ready for the 2016 Swiss Alps trip.

Another grandad here! Welcome to the site Highside. If you can, get out to the Alps. The biking will be fantastic, not so much glacier boarding. It'll get very wet and slushy after 10am this time of the year.

Getting ready for the 2016 Swiss Alps trip.

Wonderful vids Eddie. Shame they never show the true steepness! A black run we did on our bikes (photo above) was a 32 degree angle for 500 metres. It was used in the downhill ski event for the '68 Grenoble Olympics. We inched down it hanging off the back of the seat, both brakes on hard. Felt...

Thanks Denis, we'll give those blue runs you suggested a go first. Looks like a lot of choice. May be there Wednesday?

Could be a way of getting your wife take up mtbing? Keep mentioning all the pretty girls you see on bikes when you're out on yours!

I would love to be there now! The local bike shops are a great place to get info, either the guys working there or customers. I've found like minded people are usually really helpfull. Look out for naked women on your bike rides!

Getting ready for the 2016 Swiss Alps trip.

Steady Eddie!:D lol. That is above the tree line around 7500 ft. The mountain forest finishes at about 6500ft. The mountain is stunning in the forest and also cooler. Temps can reach 105f even up at the top but can fall to 35-40f at night in mid summer. I spoke to a friend a few days ago and it...

Getting ready for the 2016 Swiss Alps trip.

My wife riding near the top of the Grand Serre. We had come down from the top of the telecabin and had around 12kms to go to the bottom. I know, its not a good advert for health and safety but we were'nt intent of doing a rapid downhill that day.

Getting ready for the 2016 Swiss Alps trip.

I lived in the Serre Chevalier area of the French Alps for 8 years and mtb'ed all and every summer and still didn't know the whole area. The chairlifts were open for 6 weeks in July through August, so that opened up a hugh space that was out of reach with pedal power. Hundreds of kms of pistes...

Brexit, actually the UK has come out rather well.

Benjahmin, well said. This government borrowing/spending policy goes against everything I learnt growing up to do with money. I was taught that debt was evil and shamefull! If I didn't save up for something, I didn't get it. I've lived my life by this rule, apart from a mortgage. How times have...

    Scott v Haibike.

My Haibike is fantastic and I'm sure I would have felt the same about any of the bikes that have been mentioned in this thread? The rear suspension is what makes it so good imo.

11.2 miles round Mortimers Forest yesterday evening. Climbed to the top of the High Vinnells. 1230ft took longer than usual as we had a non assisted biker with us. Photo at the top. Vid of me taking a tumble and glad to have not fallen into stingers!

Hopton Woods yesterday. Did the the Pearce XC red trail. Described as.... '18km and recently re opened after a 3 year break. It's classified as a difficult trail so it is suitable for proficient mountain bikers with good off-road skills. The sweeping descents, challenging climbs and rocky, rooty...
