ARCC Moulton and the Process of Getting There (LONG)

@Danidl Glad you enjoyed the insight into Shetland. There is a big problem with the youngsters drinking up here, but that is probably much the same anywhere these days. A few months ago I was on the pointy end of attempted vandalism, when a drunk youngster, who had been partying in the local...

The research cycle is starting again, but this time it is my other half. Having ridden the ARCC Moulton, and being blown away by it, and seeing how much it helps me crack along at a decent pace, which she can't match, she has decided that the time has come for her to have one. As I have said...

The trouble is that it downloads GPS and almanac data through the GSM network... Assisted GPS, also known as A-GPS or AGPS, enhances the performance of standard GPS in devices connected to the cellular network. A-GPS improves the location performance of cell phones (and other connected devices)...

Oops! I think that there are roundabouts. I just remembered another one. They could build a phone mast on them so we could all snapchat!

I can't believe that a phone has a better GPS than a dedicated GPS where I live. What you are missing is that there is often no signal for the phone to triangulate. There are also very few trees on Shetland, so no tree cover means good satellite reception. Battery life - the other thing that...

Yep, nuts for wanting better quality. I am sure that it will make sense to someone - probably not you though!

Couldn't agree more on the porage and banana. Great foods to set you up for the day and to keep you going on long rides.

The smartphone is a multi purpose way of doing things badly. What's the point of squinting at a tiny screen trying to read the internet when I could have the larger screen of the iPad. The iPad mini screen size is as far a compromise as I am willing to make. I wouldn't use the iPad to take a...

The 4G in Shetland is actually a lie. We have it in some places, but not all. I think someone did a swift retraction after it was announced that we have 4G. To cover your list see below: - Phone calls - my phone does this Messaging - as above Internet on the go - I don't need this GPS...

I use a non-smart phone that costs me about £12 a month for the contract. I find smartphone screens a bit small so I have an iPad mini. I prefer the quality of the shots from a proper camera. Whenever you see a shot on the internet the poster firstly apologises for the quality of the picture...

Storms Barbara and Connor swept through Shetland over the xmas period, and I went out for a walk down to my office in winds between 40 and 50 mph. It was a mile walk each way and was really hard going getting there, but much easier on the way back. I settled down in the house feeling sorry for...

I rode home with a 22 mph tailwind as hard as I could, often exceeding 16 mph, so receiving no help from the motor. Unfortunately I overdid it and started to feel dizzy and weak after about 10 miles. I pushed on for another mile then pulled in for a break. The ePod was still showing a green...

...which means that I have been riding around on levels 4 and 7, not 3 and 6 as stated. The weather is taking a turn for the worse, as are my lungs, so I can't see me riding much more this year.

As to whether it is worth it, and ignoring the fact that it has been so deeply discounted, ask yourself how much your time is worth getting it back to the retailer if it fails, once, twice, three times. Ask yourself also the potential costs of failure, late to meetings, work, engagements etc...

Thanks for the comments folks. Into a 19 mph+ headwind this morning, feeling very tired as I am not used to this level of exercise, riding on setting 3 I only managed 9.6 miles! The second battery was down to the yellow by the time that I completed the journey. I must try to ride around on...
