    Brexit, for once some facts.

In case anyone has forgotten, this issue is bigger than simply the cladding flammability. While I accept the point about there being a need to weigh cost against risk and make a decision with regard to that aspect of the Grenfell disaster, it does not address the other safety features absent...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

We seem to have started discussing Grenfell in the 'Brexit' thread - I don't mind as it's all politics anyway although tories love to say we shouldn't politicise these things. Tom

That, 'Tillson', is nothing short of a defence of people who, at one given point in time, had only one job to do. Those individuals who had to consider fire safety had to be satisfied on very few counts: 1) Fire escape routes 2) Fire-fighting provisions, eg, water hoses, sprinklers, etc. 3)...

Specially adapted cars for wheelchair users

Further to my piece in post #5, at least one driver has had a fine rescinded for parking her Smart car at 90º to the kerb. The matter over legality may not be as clear as I imagined but apparently, some parking enforcement officers continue to issue tickets for this practice...

    Brexit, for once some facts.

While the clueless chief British negotiating team wrestle with the impossibility of achieving anything of a 'Brexit' that will provide anywhere near as good benefits as we currently enjoy, it might be worth focussing for a moment on some of the problems the nation faces, 'Brexit' or no 'Brexit'...

Evidently, that's illegal D8veh, as some Smart car drivers found out when they were nicked and fined. Tom

Specially adapted cars for wheelchair users

The blurb informed 28mph but I think they may have mixed up a range of 28 miles with mph? Good point about the door opening though 'flecc' - I hadn't really given that a thought and I should have done as I drive a car with an automatic tailgate open/close facility and I need to be careful about...

Specially adapted cars for wheelchair users

Although adapted cars for the less able have been around in many forms for a great many years, this modern concept looks very good indeed: Tom

    Grenfell Tower

I agree absolutely. Elsewhere, I'm sure I read that fire wardens are to be deployed at other vulnerable sites elsewhere in the country. This action in Camden is completely OTT. Tom

Today's press headlines display a wide variety of what their editors see as the most important messages to emblazon over their front pages. I think you predicted exactly this kind of commentary, OG. No FT, no comment! The Torygraph ensures fear and alarm are widely spread whereas The...

How many tory MPs does it take to change a light bulb......act on a fire safety report? Tom

All the time that people vote the tory party into office, only the marionette may change; the team of puppeteers remains the same. In this infographic, only the current 'godfather of godfathers' is depicted. Tom

And in other news, from Brussels we discover that David Davis has cocked it up again and embarrassed the nation by a crass attempt at pointing out to the EU team that if weren't for the UK...

Yesterday was the longest day; it was also the day that the Daily Mail denied the accusation of 'fanning the flames of Islamophobia and racism'. There is only one Daily Mail that I know of: Tom

    Brexit, for once some facts.

Since I heard the government's 'offer' towards EU citizens currently domiciled in the UK, I have been mulling it over trying to decide whether or not it is in fact fair and realistic. My inclination, as one who spends considerable time in the EU mainland countries, is that it fails to achieve...

You have just described exactly why a second chamber does not work in practice 'Danidl'. With so many 'interest groups', instead of designing the finest example of a racehorse, the huge committee involved produce a camel! 'Ideally would be less partisan' is a lovely notion but I wouldn't want...
