Broken spoke - what sort of nipples do others use?

Thanks for all the helpful comments about nipples. After fixing the wheels and retruing, I've had a month and now just had another 3 spokes go. I didn't even hit any big potholes this time. My spokes were 12g ones from BMS battery. I've now got 36 14g ones instead (DT Swiss) Is there...

Broken spoke - what sort of nipples do others use?

Thanks Chainring. Good tip on the rim tape. I've also managed to pop a tube by not having the tape seated properly! Good to hear that the "feels about right" method of truing works for others too.

Broken spoke - what sort of nipples do others use?

Hi all, Much to my annoyance I wheeled the bike out after a lazy winter and discovered a broken spoke on the rear wheel (Bafang CST). It broke just at the elbow. I did order spare spokes so that is OK, but am a bit suspicious of the alloy nipples that came from BMS battery. In the original...

Misc spares for sale - thumb & half throttles, brake sensor, motor ext. cable, connectors

Just an update to this. I took the half throttles out and they do appear to be designed for RH use (in that they would twist down towards you in the conventional direction for a RH use). Of course you could mount them on the LH side and just have to remember to twist away from you!

Misc spares for sale - thumb & half throttles, brake sensor, motor ext. cable, connectors

Good question Dave. I don't think I got the choice when ordering from BMS battery, so I would guess that they are RH throttles. However, I never actually tried them to check - started with the thumb throttle and never tried the half twist ones.

Add suspensions or sell my hybrid/road bike?

Would agree with the above. Fat tyres are great. Most manufacturers will quote a max tyre size for the frame. I went from 22 to 32 and now at 42mm on a 700c wheel. No major difference in speed, but much more comfortable. Just make sure your tyre pressures are correct - check once a week and you...

Misc spares for sale - thumb & half throttles, brake sensor, motor ext. cable, connectors

Hi all, I've not been on this forum for a while - winter = icy roads and a far too convincing excuse not to cycle for a lazy person like me. I've finally cleared out the study and have some excess spares that I no longer need (I bought extras from BMS battery but fortunately ended up not...

You know when you've been mango'd... the return!

I got all excited there and thought somebody was selling a Mango velomobile. http://www.sinnerbikes.com/modellen/mango/mango-tour/?lang=en Alas. It is just the cheap nasty ebike that obviously didn't sell last time!

Marathons are a bit of a pig, but this video should help. No tools required.

Bafang BBSxx left sided thumb throttle

Fine to put it on the left. The only handedness in the thumb throttle is the routing of the cables. You can tidy the cable routing up with some cable ties. Of course you could also turn it round, but then you'd have to push the throttle in the other direction.

    Customs bag... and sewing machine?

Try a frame bag. Bikebags.co.uk are good - small husband and wife team. Made to your spec and made to measure your frame.

Various motors, controllers and other bits

No problem - sounds like they might be a bit lower power than I was wanting. Best of luck with the sale. You've inspired me - I must put up for sale all the spare throttles and switches I got from BMSB battery when building the bike.

Various motors, controllers and other bits

What current do the 2 e-crazyman produce? And is the sensored controller a square wave or sine wave controller? Thanks Phil

    Help wanted with Boss adjustment

Very cool. Thanks for the recap, and for sharing the final result. Looks like d8veh did you a great build there. Can you remember the name of the company in Germany that did your 48V triangle battery? I'm having crazy thoughts about a 48V upgrade to my 36V system for extra speed. Naughty!

Winter battery care - how to look after battery when not in use for a few months

Thanks Flecc for the link and the helpful commentary (particularly about warming up before charging). Fortunately it's all worked out well. My ebike is relegated to a small box room which also happens to not have the heating up very high, so sounds like if I charge to something over 40% and...

Winter battery care - how to look after battery when not in use for a few months

Thanks Geebee. Good to know that if I could get away with it if I just charge fully. I'm envious of your recumbent trikes by the way. Do you use them all year round?

Winter battery care - how to look after battery when not in use for a few months

Hi all, I've been enjoying commuting to work a couple of times a week on the ebike - the combination of a 36V 20Ah battery in the frame and beefy CST rear hub mean that hills and headwinds are no longer such a problem ;) The icy weather appears to be on us, and roads are getting a bit...

cruise control - maintain constant speed

I would have thought it was easier to get a controller that supports cruise control, and then wire in a momentary switch to engage cruise at whichever speed you want. Both the S12P and S12S support this - I've had both running in this mode. Very handy, although I still prefer just using the PAS...

S12S controller - removal of solder from shunt, now motor does not run

Thanks d8veh. I'll have a look this week. I did end up getting a frame bag by the way - haven't done a long trip on the bike yet since then, but balance just going round the block is much better. I hardly notice the weight unless I have to lift the bike unlike having the battery on the rear rack.
