S12S controller - removal of solder from shunt, now motor does not run

Hi all, I've made a foolish blunder. On measuring current to the S12S I discovered that I'd been allowing up to 32A due to getting a little exuberant with adding solder to the shunt. I therefore decided to remove a little solder using a soldering iron and solder sucker, and also decided to use...

Easy Motion Neo Cross electric bike "Brokenspokes"

Check your spoke tension regularly. Get a spoke key and tighten any that feel loose. Then periodically check that the wheel is roughly round and not too wobbly! If you are patient follow Sheldon Brown's instructions on wheel truing and do if properly.

Speakers on an ebike - any thoughts?

Thanks all for the input. About the only thing I miss when cycling is the ability to catch up with podcasts, listen to Radio 4 and the like. Maybe I'll have to continue just listening to the voices in my head :)

Speakers on an ebike - any thoughts?

Hi all, I'm not a fan of wearing headphones while cycling as I quite like to hear what is coming when going slowly, and be able to turn my head to hear what is coming when going faster. However, now that the bike is going OK I'm beginning to wonder about adding more gadgets (!) Has anyone put...

    Battery Sizes

Just to add to the discussion I'm also a fan of a larger battery, but that is so I can do a hilly 20m commute without having to worry about the effect of headwind and whether I have enough range to use the lights. 20 Ah battery for me thanks. In fact I think my next big purchase might be a 48V...

Anderson powerpole connectors on BMS battery shrink wrap battery & S12S controller

d8veh, do you mean that you prefer to solder the battery direct to controller and not have connectors at all, or do you mean that you prefer to solder connectors on rather than crimping? I do have to remove the battery to charge at work so will have to have connectors on it, but was interested...

    Current control or speed control?

In advanced settings. Manual is in downloads tab on the BMSbattery page for S12S and either LCD3 or LCD1 depending on which display you have. Unfortunately it involves wading through lots of options to get to the one you want. Have the PDF open while doing it if your memory is as poor as mine!

    Current control or speed control?

Thanks d8veh, Will have to try both methods once I have checked how much power I'm pulling. I think I might have been a bit over-enthusiastic with the solder on the shunt thus am controlling the current at the moment! It goes like stink up even the biggest hills when on level 5, but wires do...

Anderson powerpole connectors on BMS battery shrink wrap battery & S12S controller

Dear all, A bit of a newbie question here again I'm afraid. I want to pop in a watt meter temporarily between battery & controller as although I have the LCD3 that shows power, I soldered the shunt so it no longer shows the correct amount! The kit came pre-wired with Anderson powerpoles for the...

    Current control or speed control?

Hi all I have the S12S controller from BMS battery and have been riding with current control (so the different power levels assist up to a max current whatever your speed). This is working nicely, but I find that I tend to just keep putting more effort in and going faster. Do others tend to use...

    Riding on Air

Another thing to throw in to the mix is that if you have a rigid frame adding a suspension seat post can help with comfort as well. I recently bought the sun tour one, but haven't done enough long runs to give definitive feedback.

Is it feasible to electrify a......

Depends how much effort you want to put in. I went for a powered hub wheel but for your bike a powered crank drive might be better. Only issue is the added wear on the the chain - I'm running tiagra 10 speed so already have a narrow chain so went hub instead. Bafang BBS 02 would be a good...

Do inner-tube widths need to match the tyre spec?

Just a word of caution - if you go for a tube that is much narrower than the tyre then the tube will be more likely to burst - it will be stretched beyond expected limits. Having said that you can often get away with going one above or below with the size ranges without problems. If punctures...

Woosh Sirocco CD or Big Bear?

Bear is probably easier for an occasional cyclist - easier gear changes on a hub drive.

    A perfect commute

Clipless are great for longer commutes. But practice lots before using for real. It sounds silly but it is worth leaning your bike against a wall and watch TV for a couple of hours while you clip and unclip until you have the hang of it. If using SPDs I'd also recommend the multi angle release...

Has anyone dealt with wimbikes ?

Direct drive cromotor. Are these not popular on endless sphere? Not sure how road legal a 6kW motor is though! Ebikes.ca also do cromotor and 9c if direct drive is your thing. Seems expensive but maybe once you take import duty in to account it is not so far from other suppliers?
