Torque or speed sensor - preferences?

I disagree. Anyone who can't exercise full control at any given speed on a good torque sensor bike really shouldn't be riding a bike at all. No such devices exist on regular pushbikes therefore all speed control is via pedal work and surely if there were any merit in your premise, the European...

Torque or speed sensor - preferences?

Most of Europe seems to manage perfectly well without a throttle on what is still essentially a bicycle so I really don't understand why some British folk feel they are close to essential. The whole concept of EAPCs, (and there's a clue in the long version of that acronym!) is that we are...

Torque or speed sensor - preferences?

I ride EAPCs of each persuasion and my preference is for the torque sensor. It replicates real cycling better in my opinion, many speed sensor types making the bike feel more like a moped. Tom

Why people choose to race EAPCs is beyond me; it kind of misses the point.....big time! If people want to race bikes, they can do that using identical pushbikes with nothing but their own strength/fitness/ability to propel them along. Surely the whole raison d'ȇtre of these EAPCs is to provide...

I shouldn't think I'll have too much difficulty Jim as my ancestry is traceable back to the 1700s through clan records and it was my birthplace and remains home to some members of my immediate family. Tom

    Aldi Bicycle Work Stand

Mine holds a 21kg rear-hub driven bike without any problems. The fulcrum point is close to the seat post but I prefer to clamp it on the crossbar although I need to be careful not to pinch the hydraulic line. For the money, I really can't fault the bike stuff from Lidl/Aldi. Tom ps I should...

    Pedestrian Crossing madness

I'm in a similar position primarily because I cannot seem to throw mechanical things away and I empathise readily with the slogan on the T-shirt. Currently, I count 3 EAPCs, 2 pushbikes + a nice old Dawes hybrid on loan to a family member who has been commuting around Cambridge for three years...

    The dongle re-visited

I have ridden one of my EAPCs quite a few times, forgetting to attach the computer which encompasses the speedo. It behaves exactly as it does with the computer attached. Power assistance is finished at +/- 15 mph and I'm on my own after that. If I'm riding at 17-18 mph then get slowed down...

There's a guy on ebay selling straws and he's doing good business right now to some England football fans. If you're quick Trex , you might be able to bid successfully for one. Tom

Trex, that's yet another irrelevant, inconsequential statement you have made and I have now reached a point where, if you assured me the Pope is catholic, I'd seek a second opinion as well as search the internet for reassurance. Tom

    The World Cup

Louis Suarez = 250w ebike with only 6 of 8 gears working. Wayne Rooney = 350w ebike with a dongle but badly advised as to where such power may be used effectively. Roy Hodgson = busy writing short resignation speech for next week. Steven Gerrard = the most overrated footballer in recent...

Trex, I feel embarrassed at these now pathetic attempts of yours to make a case for something indefensible. Have you never heard the expression, 'When you're in a hole and wish to extricate yourself, stop digging!'? Tom

And that will prove......?? Can't you see Trex how ridiculous that kind of posturing is? If you are seeking to garner support for something that everyone should by now understand is illegal, then it really doesn't matter how much support for your premise there is. The matter of...

    Pedestrian Crossing madness

I don't know what an irredeemable cockthistle is either and the only time I have heard it before was when it was directed towards George Osborne so if it means you're anything like him, you may consider it a major insult! Tom

    The dongle re-visited

Phil, Perhaps you haven't been a member long enough to remember some of the historic discussion about what constitutes public highway and what may be considered off-road. The legal definitions make 'off-road' rather difficult to pin down. A bicycle can be used in lots of areas besides the...

    The dongle re-visited

Trex, I have read that piece several times and you seem to be scratching around, searching for some kind of justification for contraptions not permitted in the UK. You need to stop thinking bike because 'de-restricted' infers that bike is no longer an applicable description. Just accept that...

    The dongle re-visited

It seems you just don't get it Trex! Either that or you simply don't care. As soon as one takes a de-restricted bike into the public arena, one is in breach of the law so how that bike is ridden becomes somewhat irrelevant. The irresponsibility is in using that unregistered, untaxed...
