What was wrong with the original?

The BBC has this item on its news pages today but I'm afraid this piece of technology is lost on me as I can't see that it's much different from the original method of learning to ride: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-27685867 Tom

This guy really loves his bike!

I saw that item on the BBC news pages yesterday but I couldn't understand why it was there as the piece was dated November 2007. Tom

Size of nuts on rear wheel - Freego Eagle?

....or, as my old boss, a man from MacDuff, (which is about halfway from London to Reykjavic I believe,) used to say whenever I had trouble removing seized king pins or shackle pins from heavy goods vehicles as a young apprentice, 'Ye jist need a little mair purr..sivver..ince laddie!' I soon...

Size of nuts on rear wheel - Freego Eagle?

I agree with Flecc based on a similar dilemma recently. In the end, I actually purchased a new open end/ring spanner of 186 mm overall length so that it would fit inside my small seat post bag. Buying single tools is a really expensive business but after much searching, I found exactly what I...

    Xion drive motor drag.

My Xion-drive goes just as quickly downhill as my other two ebikes so I really don't understand this 'drag' of which one or two correspondents complain. Apart from my own bikes, I have test-ridden quite a few others and the Xion doesn't feel greatly different from the Haibike crank-drive once...

E bikes on the one show.....

I understand the point Mike but if I were a dealer, I shouldn't hold my breath! Tom

Transporting your e-bike, any cheap option?

There are roof-mounted bike carriers designed for bikes up to 20 Kgs although most are limited to 15 Kgs. I did find one last time I researched the matter that was good for 23 Kgs but I can't remember who produced it. Obviously, for some people, hefting 18-20 Kgs up and into a roof bike...

    Ride Scoozy Kickstarter Ebike

'Ebike specific saddles'....! As opposed to what? Perhaps a non-ebike specific one.......that's just a guess though! Anyway, I'm seriously thinking of emigrating to Scotland now as the Chief Secretary to the Treasury, man for all seasons and general embarrassment to both Scotland and the rest...

    advice on tyres?

If you are happy doing things that way and it works, then you can't be wrong. I shouldn't think too many others will share your method though! Tom

    Downhill

'Engine braking' works ok..ish, if imperfectly on my bike and I have used it occasionally. Mostly, I prefer to use the bike as I would any other bike but that braking assistance is probably of more use than the energy recovery aspect produced by the facility. Tom

    Yet another journalist......

That's certainly part of it David but there are huge cultural differences in perception, long overcome in places like Holland and Denmark which have never been addressed properly in the UK. Perceptions and attitudes towards priority on the road are vivid among road users in those places whereas...

    Yet another journalist......

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-21786511 I must have missed this article when it was in the news but it's another newsman trying out and opining on his brief experience with an ebike. There have been untold articles in a similar vein over the years and this one differs little from others I...

    advice on tyres?

Other than perhaps being a little cheaper, I really can't see the point of all that faffing around. The protection offered by the MP+ tyres is perfectly adequate. I shan't be copying your method, successful for you though it may be. Tom

What has happened to the variety?

It seems to me that a lot of people describe requirements which can only be provided by a moped/scooter/motorcycle. Why do they look to EAPCs for the answer? Tom

Great style and the Dutch have that in spades when it comes to leisure/utility bikes. Tom

    ADAPTORS

Recently, I saw those adaptors advertised but couldn't think why anyone would bother. I have Woods/Dunlop valves on two of my ebikes and can pump air into them easily using either my track pump or a mini-pump. They hold air just as well as my Presta-equipped bikes so I see no reason to change...

    advice on tyres?

Add me also to the list of Schwalbe MP Tour fans. After being a little concerned about fitting MP Tours on my PC Xion on account of the extra weight and a perceived stiff and unyielding ride with inferior rolling resistance, I now believe it's the best bit of money I have spent on my electric...

    Panasonic motor

My Xion-powered PC has a push-button walk mode assist feature which I couldn't ever envisage using when I first got the bike. As my 70 yard back garden path is all uphill and I need to negotiate the bike through an arch and around some tight bends, I have found the feature really useful so I...

    big bear?

That new step-thru model probably epitomises all that ebikes in the Dutch style should be expected to provide. If it goes well up the hills and makes life easier in the wind, nobody, (I would think) purchasing such a bike would be unhappy at not being able to get much above the...

Mid Drive motor noise. Differences between makes.

My early-model Panasonic crank-drive is to all intents and purposes, silent. My FWD Tongxin motor is equally silent. My most recent addition, a Xion RWD motor is also silent. My other half insists I need a hearing test. It's all about perspective, I think! Tom
