    Redbridge 2014,May 18,afternoon

I have ridden the E-Special too and a couple of other Kogas. They really are beautifully engineered bikes and that Ion DD motor has all the power most people might need. They are one of few high-end bikes that I think worth the money. Tom

    Are offroad ebikes becoming acceptable?

I think the guy makes a lot of sense. There's a place for ebikes but in his sport, it seems to me quite pointless and unnecessary in the same way as olympic swimmers using flippers. Tom

    And in NewYork..........

Well.....just watch the clip. Some of you will recognise the problems cyclists face trying to cycle in the towns and cities. Tom

    Take care in Spain

Number 7 is interesting! New Spanish Traffic Laws Come in to Effect on 9 May 2014 May 8th, 2014 On the grounds that ‘ignorance of the law is no excuse’, all drivers in Spain are advised immediately to familiarise themselves with the detail of the new traffic laws which are coming into effect...

    Decent track pump

I second Peerjay's call on that one. I've had my 'JoeBlow' a few years now and although it got broken once at the business end, I found a replacement head on ebay for pennies and it was next day delivery. After a two minute repair, all was well and the pump continues to give good service. Tom

    Best electric bikes under 2000

My Xion-motored PC goes downhill just as easily as my other two ebikes so I don't understand your statement. It's a nice motor, providing a smooth, quiet drive with enough torque to get up most hills at a fair lick. The energy replenishment is nice on the spec sheet but in practice, pretty...

    Ebike Maintenance & Maintenance Stands

I found this by Googling 'Lidl bike stand' Julian and this is the very model I have. It copes easily with my 21 Kg Pro-Connect and will support my 27 Kg Dutch bike once I lift it into position. If I ran a cycle repair business, I'd probably pay 10 times as much for a really robust model but I...

    Congratulations Marianne Vos

Well done to Marianne Vos on winning the inaugural women's Tour of Britain race after sprinting home to win the last section today. Also worthy of mention are our two best finishing British girls, Lucy Garner and Hannah Barnes, both of whom were recorded with the same time at 12:42:07" + 50"...

    Ebike Maintenance & Maintenance Stands

Hi Julian. There have been untold bike maintenance manuals produced over the years including a Haynes example. I'm sure somebody gave me one as a present years ago but I don't think I have ever consulted it for anything. You'll probably find that there is a 'Youtube' vid of just about all the...

    winding up non electric cyclists

I applaud that sentiment Dave! When I bought my first ebike, it wasn't so that I could go faster than on my pushbike or to leave 'roadies' in my wake. Any scooter or motorcycle, in many cases far cheaper than the latest high-end ebikes, could achieve that. I just wanted to continue cycling...

    winding up non electric cyclists

When I meet cyclists I usually pass the time of day with them and I can't say I have experienced any nastiness or p-taking from them regarding the fact I have electrical assistance. I'm bound to say, if I still had my health, I'd be riding one of my 'normally-aspirated' bikes and wouldn't...

One law for the rich etc

I love the fact that so many have contributed to this thread on a forum with a sizeable number of members riding and boasting about their illegal two-wheelers. For me, there's no difference whatsoever between the likes of Huhne and those people who, knowing the law, selfishly choose to do as...

    more is better ?

Yes, striking the right balance between (a) selecting a level of components up to the job of regular commuting and (b) diminishing the bank balance by the minimum to ensure (a) is key to happy commuting. Most of us have to make compromises in many things and ebikes are no different. Tom

    Chain & sprocket lubrication

Thanks for that Jim and Andrew. Until I adjusted my rear derailleur and cables, I was beginning to think that the dry-lub was causing the stickiness and reluctance to change smoothly that I have always experienced on this particular bike. It seemed to me that the drivetrain just wasn't as good...

    Chain & sprocket lubrication

I'm sure this subject has been discussed many times before but I have been using dry-lub on my latest bike since new. It's only an experiment for me as my other bikes have always been regularly oiled but we all know how messy that can be. As yet, I haven't come to any conclusion about dry-lub...

    Choices for 1st Pedelec...

The Xion X24 does indeed come with Continentals, (Town Rides, I think they're called) but I swapped them for MPs straight after my first puncture. The front fork is perfectly adequate for road and most trail and I have the pre-load on mine at max, providing just the slightest of shock...

Four years on and very little to report!

It's good, (and reassuring) to hear such satisfactory reports about ebikes rather than the more common forum fare about things that have gone wrong. May you have many more happy and leisurely miles in the next few years, taking in all that pretty countryside. Tom
