I have ridden the E-Special too and a couple of other Kogas. They really are beautifully engineered bikes and that Ion DD motor has all the power most people might need. They are one of few high-end bikes that I think worth the money. Tom

I second Peerjay's call on that one. I've had my 'JoeBlow' a few years now and although it got broken once at the business end, I found a replacement head on ebay for pennies and it was next day delivery. After a two minute repair, all was well and the pump continues to give good service. Tom

Yes, striking the right balance between (a) selecting a level of components up to the job of regular commuting and (b) diminishing the bank balance by the minimum to ensure (a) is key to happy commuting. Most of us have to make compromises in many things and ebikes are no different. Tom
