    Help! Cheap commute option

Pendleton bikes are just very cheap bikes sold from Halfords with a bumped up price. The main problem is the batteries, which have a habit of shutting down when you don't use them for a while, and there were problems with the rear gears if you didn't oil them properly on the early ones. For that...

Help! New e-bike buyer here - what annoyances should I expect?

I commuted 14 miles each way for a few years. I had been using a motorbike and car, then switched to an electric bike. I loved it. The only thing that I found annoying was that the wind always shifted from morning to afternoon. There was a long stretch of road with hedges either side, which...

Lishui Controller Modification - Firmware Flash Project

The P5 setting looks after it. It adds a damping factor. I would guess that it does a moving average calculation and the P5 effects the number of readings or the time over which the average is taken.

Pedal assist disc help. Plus received wrong sensor

The correct side is the one that works. You put it on, turn the crank and see if it engages the motor. If it doesn't work, you put it the other way and test again. After you find the correct way and have confirmed that it's working, you install the remaining pedal arm.

Convert old Boardman Hyb 8.6 or a cheap new donor?

I have some reservations. If you can't sort out gears, you're probably going to have trouble with a conversion. The very least you have to do is adjust the gears to get correct indexing, but there are frequent other problems that need sorting. You have to get all the spacing correct with a...

    E-bike battery - upgrading capacity a bit

OK. My usual advice when you need to spend any money on a Swytch kit is to keep the motor and chuck everything else, then get yourself a decent controller and battery installed on the downtube or rack. Swytch kit is fine if you want a lightweight kit for city riding snd short commutes without...

Convert old Boardman Hyb 8.6 or a cheap new donor?

When you have a motor to help you, you don't need all the stuff that you have on an expensive bike that makes it expensive. For a winter commuter bike, a cheap catalogue MTB bike is perfect as a donor as long as it has a triangle frame and disc brakes. You can buy such bikes from Facebook, Ebay...

    For Sale Bargains

If you look through my threads a few months ago, I gave some explanations on how to spoof the speed or pedal sensor signals with a cheap Aliexpress device. Today, I saw this video for another device. This one is much more suitable for testing. It could also be used as a permanent installation if...

Reversing direction of mxus hub motor

The controller will regulate the max speed by reading the pulse frequency from the motor's hall sensors. It translates the pulse frequency into speed by using the wheel size and the P1 setting, which is the number of magnets in the motor's rotor times the motor's reduction ratio. The speed...

    Help! Gt all terra conversion

The 20" relates directly to the wheel size and indirectly to the speed. A 20" wheel has to spin faster to get the same speed as a 26" one. Hub-motors need to run in their efficient zones considering RPM, which is at about 75% of their maximum speed, so a 15 mph bike needs a 20 mph motor, which...

The Anything Thread that is Never off subject.

True fact. I was training a student about quality control, when I went to the vending machine to get a Mars bar and it delivered one that was about an inch shorter than normal. To get the exact evidence, I took it into the lab and weighed it on our calibrated equipment. This gave me the...

    BMS size

You need a 100 amp BMS and cells than can deliver double that to be safe and reliable. If you overdrive the cells, they'll catch fire and explode, and you'll be in a lot of trouble. If you run any ebike battery at 50 amps, it'll get dangerously hot. I can see that this project is not going to...

is this motor uk road legal ? on a ebike

Just to let you know that there is no law relating to actual maximum output power allowed. The law is that the MOTOR must be RATED at no more than 250w. The next thing is the difference between input and output power. Let's say you had a 20A controller. The maximum input power that the...
