Belt or chain, derailleur or hub?

I run an alfine 8 with a BBS mid drive conversion. Love it and near maintenence free. The setup also allows you to use pretty much any chain and deceent 8 speed chains are peanuts. You can buy various size rear sprockets to play with gearing. Cost a tenner only. Compare that to a new front...

B'spoke/custom battery builder required-any recommendations please?

Agreed, though, and may just be me, but I have had a good few soft pack frame batteries over the years. No matter how waterproof the bag is supposed to be I have suffered water ingress. So ideally a hard shell case. However I don't think Jimmy makes cases. He can recell a ything or build a pack...

Total amateur - I have questions.

Welcome! Paupers drive innovation through necessity :)! Neat job on a budget and you got discs which is a safety must imho. Plus tidy home battery install. Slight shame controller wouldn't fit in same bag but that's a pretty small triangle you had to work with by the look of it Change that...

Cheap early bird prices on this new E-Bike

Doing a reverse image search on your "buyers" who give positive reports is very intersting indeed I'll just leave the first one here but she isn't married to a post office worker and didn't buy a bike either.... https://xw.qq.com/cmsid/20200127A08RCV00?f=newdc

CAKE Ösa electric utility motorcycle can function as an off-grid mobile studio

    Long commute question

The constant gear changing! With a hub motor you can get up to speed much faster without going through the gears. For stop start I prefer them And, similar to you, wanted reliability. My hybrid has a shaft drive and alfine hub with xf07 front

    Long commute question

I am a year round commuter of over a decade first off. Whatever you, and I think a Woosh bike or a conversion would both be fine, don't forget to budget for good gear. Decent waterproofs, gloves, pannier or backpack, lights etc Personally I get an IGH bike to allow for changing when...

BBS02 (Old Type Controller) broken, wiring help.

Ahh yes, the coronovirus. I forgot about the delivery implications "strapped on" was just my colourful language. A bbs01 controller fits perfectly but won't deliver as much power to your motor. As a result your 500w bbso2 will feel like a 250w bbs01 But you can get one fast within the uk

BBS02 (Old Type Controller) broken, wiring help.

https://www.greenbikekit.com/bafang-bbs01-bbs02-48v-controller.html True but the whole pcb is potted in thick silicon too - absolute bugger to remove and ery delicate soldering required With the greatest respect to OP I'm not sure that fix is within his ability ( by own admission!!) But...

BBS02 (Old Type Controller) broken, wiring help.

Hi Peter Welcome back - flecc is very much still here and full of knowledge! Straight to the point - no, you absolutely can't! Those three wires are phase wires. The controller sends pulses to make the motor work (very old style brushed motors had just two wires - positive a d negative and...

    Need some advice

Another option for you Keep the mid drive and tune it down to about 18a And then get an alfine 8 hub. This combo has done me proud for 9000 miles. 3 chains and 3 rear sprockets worth of cost (about a tenner each so 60 quid wear costs) Change gears when still too. Great for traffic/city...

    Need some advice

Completely agree with above. My hub equipped bike is preferred for my flat commute over my bbs02b equipped bike A 1kw direct drive hub will be horrible for this use

    Be Prepared

Plastic baby feeding spoons are best. My kids are rather too old for that now.! Seriously, amongst the full toolkit I always carry, I have a small pedal spanner that incorporates a tyre lever and spoke key. A couple of quid from planet x
