    Recommendations for Electric Bike Insurance

Need to renew my cycle insurance. Total value is circa £7500, 2 electric bikes and an upcoming new Brompton. All legal. Needs to have public liability. Barclays Home Insurance stopped providing cover some time back.

    Whisper 905se speed limit

So 5% of the time the bike will be used on the road ? In which case exceeding the limit is breaking the law. Even if you are 'off road' for it to be legal to exceed the speed limit you need the permission of the land owner, do you have that permission ? Can be difficult for forum members to...

Brompton conversion: Woosh vs Boost Vs Swytch

Indeed an electricfied Brompton is way too heavy to carry around a shop. So I just dont. Mine has a decent set of wheels on the rear rack and its very easy to push around (folded) in the shop like a shopping trolley. None of the bother of removing and replacing the battery either, that stays...

How legal is a kit which can be set up to exceed 250W and 15.5mph.

Well exactly, so if you do an electric conversion on a 'bike' to comply with regulations\guidance do you just need to put a label on the bike listing yourself as the 'Manufacturer' for the conversion to be legal ?

How legal is a kit which can be set up to exceed 250W and 15.5mph.

Is there anything in the regulations\guidance that says the 'manufacturer' of the 'bike' must be a business of the type that's registered at Companies house or is someone who is VAT registered or registered as self employed etc ?

Petition asks government for drivers to be "presumed liable" for cyclist collisions

Whilst it seems unlikely such legislation would happen in the UK, it does make you wonder why in some countries they have to go to such extreme measures to 'persuade' motorists to be considerate to cyclists.

Cheaper China e-bikes 'kick in teeth' for UK firms

Does it matter, even if there are regulations ? There would be close to zero chance of a willingness to enforce them, thats just the UK way. And if something goes wrong with a bike from China what are your chances of getting it fixed, a refund, or even returning it ?

Cheaper China e-bikes 'kick in teeth' for UK firms

A quote from the above news item; "British based e-bike companies expressed concerns about the impact of a potential "flood" of cheap Chinese e-bikes entering the UK. " No doubt the imports will only be allowed in if they meet the highest quality standards and comply with all regulations...

Disposal of eBike batteries - where ?

Thanks, I have a trip planned to the local re-cycling centre in the next week or so, I will report back on what happens. It had already been in a container that was full of water, I will check the charge status and chuck in a bit of salt.

Same in Cardiff. Go the the pedestrian precinct by the Castle, where there Deliverpoo riders congregate by OldMicDonalds and maybe 90% + of the 'eBikes' you see look like illegal eMotorBikes.

    Battery Fires

True, but it makes sense to reduce risk where possible\practible. Yes my house its full of electrical appliances that could catch fire. Not so easy or practible to move them all to the shed at a the bottom of the garden.

TONIGHT 9pm: - E-Bikes: The Battle for Our Streets - Panorama

The program followed the classic British narrative; there is a problem, so tighter regulations are needed. Rather than attempt to shift the blame to the lack of regulations why not simply say; lets introduce proper and widespread enforcement of the existing regulations and see if the situation...

Police launch massive crackdown on e-bikes and e-scooters which pose ‘danger’ to pedestrians

Agreed. Put your self in the position of the hotel manager. Even if the eBike looks like a 'proper' eBike, how can the average hotel manager know if the battery used is not one of those that a DIY novice has 'repaired' following advice after a few posts on an eBike\Pedelec Internet forum. I...
