    Home made pedelec

Apart from the issues with castor and camber which @matthewslack has mentioned there is no strength in that front end. Every time you hit a bump a little hard the flattened end of the top bar will bend upwards (who knows that may create some camber). There also doesn't appear to be any damping...

Should bikes come with replacement ebike motor dropouts as standard.

No, it would compromise the integrity of the rear triangle, the universal hanger is an addition to not instead of the dropout. If the frame was designed to take a motor with a 14mm axle then you would need adaptors for all the other variants increasing the costs. Most if not all higher end bikes...

    gtech battery connector replacement (esent)

You didn't read what they actually said "Frequently with 4x battery terminals 2x feed the +ve and 2x feed the -ve, And these are not always connected at the bike side with only one of each terminal employed. .. SO If your battery provides power via all 4x of its terminals But the inner 2x...

Looking for a decent ebike to buy, on a bit of a 'budget'

So you can't use it on bendy roads, got it. Doesn't really sound fit for purpose as a throttle though.

Looking for a decent ebike to buy, on a bit of a 'budget'

So what happens in a series of switch backs where you change from side to side regularly.

Looking for a decent ebike to buy, on a bit of a 'budget'

I don't know if this says a lot about the way you guys ride your bikes, but there is no way I am going into a corner or fast bend with the inside pedal at 6 o'clock. I would be forever accelerating or decelerating , catching pedals on the inside of the turn is not fun.

    Easier Gear Shifter

I'm guessing OP's bike has a freewheel on the back wheel and motor on the front. If the back wheels swapped with a cassette wheel with a wide range (11-40 10 speed keeps costs down) then a 36 or 38 tooth single chain ring would cover most likely scenarios and still have a decent top speed.

    More Seizures

Not criticising or judging in any way but I often wonder how people who don't have the strength, stability etc to ride a bike normally i.e. without a throttle are going to cope with the reality of riding on roads in real life. I have worked with disabled people in other environments (skiing) and...

    Comfort on long rides

The Bordman bars appear to be on a weird angle, loosen all of the brakes, shifters etc and rotate the bars into a better position.

    Battery Fires

I don't need to figure anything out, this happened a couple of years ago. I checked the cell voltages, all were equal, can't remember what the charger voltage was and it was a little high so I turned the trim pot down. I didn't have any more problems but did keep a check when it was coming up...

    Battery Fires

I'm not going to disagree with either of the responses to my post. What I will say is that @saneagle response is exactly why the problem exists. If you use a 48V charger on a 36V battery then you have the situation he describes. The battery wasn't out of balance, nor was it covered by any...

    Battery Fires

Can't say I agree with that, a BMS can only dissipate so much excess current when the battery is balancing. If you give it too much current the balancing resistors will surely overheat. I had a battery overheat as I left it on charge too long, the battery and charger came from a respected...

500 watt MOTORS A NO GO

In the real world, I live in a country that allows 600W. The most common bikes here in the mountains are exactly the same as any mid motor EMTB that you buy in UK. I don't know what happens in the city but I do know the police do control top speed etc with portable dynamometers.

    More Seizures

Doing a shunt mod does not increase top speed, just the amount of power available. The controller will still modulate to the set speed.

Petition asks government for drivers to be "presumed liable" for cyclist collisions

Unfortunately that is the reality of what would happen if such a law was made in UK. (Amongst others)

Cheaper China e-bikes 'kick in teeth' for UK firms

As many of you know I live in the Alps and here 99% of bikes are mid motor, approx 85% of which are Bosch. The only wheel motor bikes you see are owned by tourists and they do not go in the mountains. The terrain is typically 10% average gradients for many kms with lots of steeper sections so...

Dropper (Seat) Posts - Best thing ever ?

They are also extremely useful for starting on steep uphill sections with loose stones / gravel. Drop the seat, start moving then lift the seat makes it a breeze. My mate bought one when he saw how easily I could start after we had to stop for a gate etc.

60 or 80Nm front hub motor

It's nothing to do with ice, it's starting uphill on a steep gradient with a loose surface. I found it impossible until I fitted a dropper seat post which allowed me to start from seated for 2 or 3 pedal revs before easing my weight and raising the post to optimal climbing height, i.e. fully up.
