Cube Touring Hybrid 400 or a conversion?

I have the Cube Touring Hybrid One (mine is a 500) and it's a very nice bike (especially if you can pick up the 2018 or 2019 Iridium version with the suspension seatpost, Intuvia display and integrated rack). Cube Touring Hybrid One 400 Iridium £1439 You have the options of traditonal...

First Post - Be Kind :-)

Yes it is zero resist. On flat tarmac no need for assist at all. And very good range. If you are going to need to get up 15%+ gradients then you will want more oomph, but most cycling in the UK is well below that and the Activeline Plus is one of the best motors going for that sort of touring.

First Post - Be Kind :-)

Now I really fancy cycling this, and was researching it last night. The French route from Leon looks great but from Manchester it's easier to access the Northern Way or the one from Porto. Can't take a lithion battery on the flight in either cargo or hold so I understand so my options are...

Newbie asking for advice about first ebike to get ca. £1200-1500

Sorry, no issue for the daily commute I meant. As for leisure rides a higher torque motor trades off lower range (and sometimes a higher price/more noise) for better ability to get up the higher gradients. He should probably try a few bikes on his commute and more adventurous leisure ride...

Newbie asking for advice about first ebike to get ca. £1200-1500

I read up extensively on the Activeline Plus and several owners have said around 17-20% was tough for it and over 20% a no go. I suppose if you are light, fit and have low enough gearing and good stability you can get up most anything, and similarly a very short steep climb might be doable with...

Newbie asking for advice about first ebike to get ca. £1200-1500

Ah OK. 12% won't be an issue for the Activeline Plus. Why not have a trial on a bike that has one to see how it feels? Alternatives in your price bracket would be a MTB that is being sold off as demo or sale stock (you might be able to pick up a Haibike or Lapierre for £1500 if you are lucky)...

Newbie asking for advice about first ebike to get ca. £1200-1500

Is that 24% gradient a typo or not? Because if's not you are either going to have to go with the more expensive mountain bike motors or use walk assist mode and push the bike up that gradient. The Bosch Activeline Plus on both the Motus and Cube you list there is an excellent touring motor (and...

Cube with CX or Active plus ?

Yes - I'd find their 'terrain' factor more helpful if it was based on metres of total elevation over the ride rather than vague descriptions like 'upland tour'. I'm not young or fit and never push myself to heart rate max, yet output up to 200W average on some Strava segments on my normal bike...

Cube with CX or Active plus ?

I have a Cube Touring 500 with the Activeline Plus and the range is insane. My cycling since Xmas suggests it's around 220km if pancake flat on mixed surfaces (Cheshire Plains), dropping to 130km or so when doing routes with some elevation (as in 1800 feet over 45km - up towards the Peak...

    New ebiker need an advice

Also assist up to 28mph will kill your range.

    Steep commute to work

If you have £1500 and if you really want to buy from Halfords I'd go to their Cycle Republic branded shops and try to get an end of season (2018) Haibike or Lapierre (MTB or Cross) that fits you for around that figure. It will either have a Yamaha PW or Bosch CX motor, each of which will eat...

    Hi from Scotland

The Activeline Plus is about 30% better for range than the CX when it's switched on and it's zero resist so in actual use you can cycle more easily over 25kph or turn it off more as well, saving even more battery, which is what gives it such good real world range. You certainly wouldn't get...

    Hi from Scotland

I think the real problem is those stairs. Stairs in a house/block of flats are usually a very difficult obstacle to take a bike up one step at a time - the sizing of them is almost exactly wrong. You can of course portage the whole bike if you are strong enought to lift it but I'm a 52 year...

    Hi from Scotland

The weight might be an issue for getting up that first floor - most ebikes are in the 25kg range. For a £1500 budget in terms of mid-hubs I would recommend something like the Cube Touring Hybrid 400 Iridium. The 2018 Bosch Activeline Plus motor takes some beating for touring use. Insane range...

    ebike convert after 50 years!

Welcome to the Forum. Be careful of the Halford's Crossfire bike though, even at £1000 - it's prone to cut-out issues. https://www.pedelecs.co.uk/forum/threads/thoughts-on-carrera-crossfire-e.22623/ The £400-£500 extra needed to get you into the range of bikes with 3rd generation Bosch Active...

    Full power Cube bikes

Cubes are generally built to manage higher speeds that are legal in other countries so motor should be OK, and disc brakes should be able to cope, (after all you will go far faster downhill) but yes there will be much faster draw on battery and higher speeds will lower lifetime for other parts.

Raleigh Motus Grand Tour - the right touring bike?

Of course the easy (if expensive) solution is just buying a second battery and putting it on the pannier rack. You can get a Bosch powerpacks new for £350/£500/£650 (300/400/500) I think. Second-hand or reconditioned ones are obviously cheaper. So if, for example, you buy the Cube Touring...

Which e-bike for the wife? (Bosch motor Qs)

I've just finished my term as a school governor there (both my kids went to it)! I'm from properly up North (Sunderland) originally. 1800 metres is a lot of climbing! Just over 3x what I did on that ride. I think it would be very close to using up all the 500 battery - the range calculator set...

Which e-bike for the wife? (Bosch motor Qs)

Looks very hilly! What is the total elevation on that one Artsu? Here is my 'some elevation' ride that used about one third of the 500 battery. https://www.strava.com/activities/2038050197 As for not using the battery on flat tarmac in first hour, the difference is likely to be very marginal...
