    Help! New eBiker with Motorhome?

Get an ebike and you might even find your days of riding "for fun" come back :) Welcome to the forum.. You should try a few out if you can and make sure you tailor what you get to your specific needs and budget. If you are genuinely only going to use it to pop down the local shops, for...

    Orbea Gain e road bike

Well often I would be yes - and for short rides at weekends I do use my old all steel Marin MTB because it's lighter and more agile (I also still use it often it's the base line for my fitness route so I track how fit or otherwise I am over the past 4-5 years using it and my HRM on that route)...

    Orbea Gain e road bike

But on flat tarmac on a road bike with no wind why would you really need a battery at all? You'd expect a road bike to not need assistance to get over 25kph in those conditions. I mean for the price of a base level Gain you could get a carbon road bike with half the weight. like these ones...

Just buy the 10 year old a small e bike? Then he can keep up with you...

    Orbea Gain auxiliary battery

If the mooted price of £510 for 203W/hr is correct it's not even just 'excesssive for parts'. All closed system battery prices are 'excessive for parts' as the manufacturers take a very healthy mark-up up on them but this seems excessive even compared to other closed system battery prices like...

Cube Touring Hybrid One 500 2019 or Cube Touring Hybrid 500 2019

I bought my Cube Touring Hybrid 500 Iridium for £1570 from a B&M shop, so it's not too good to be true, just a very good price.

I don't think e road bikes are targeted at the typical ebike user to be fair.

New to pedelecs and need advice on what sort of bike I should get

Well if it's 40m of climb over 1.7km that's only an average of 2.3%. So I would expect any ebike at all should be able to get up it. The Woosh is nicer mind and if OP did want to do more with the bike, would be much more capable than an absolute bargain basement bike.

    Hi everyone

Have you any details/press reports? That would certainly have made the local press I would have thought? A 1000 Watt bike rider using it off road is just like one one of the those prats with a quad bike. Excpet quieter I suppose. BIkes exist in two very different environments. First is off...

New to pedelecs and need advice on what sort of bike I should get

Would you use the bike for anything else? Weekend touring etc.? Because if not a £1500 ebike is overkill for a total 2 mile commute. You won't be on it long enough to care about most of the things that matter to us on here. It's almost a shame for you that powered scooters aren't legal yet. A...

    Disregarding UK pedelec laws

I have a restricted pedelec and commute into work mainly off road. For off road use/cycle paths 15mph is fast enough. But if you do find yourself on a narrow road in traffic flow your options are to basically hold up all the traffic at 15mph, hop onto pavements or hang in the gutter and weave...

    Orbea Gain auxiliary battery

Yes but it's real world use that counts after all. Like you I get insane range out out my Cube Touring ALP but for the opposite reason - I only turn the motor on when I feel it's needed. I did a 4 hour 70km trip at the weekend and used circa 25% of the battery up. Maybe one third of the time...

    Orbea Gain auxiliary battery

That price seems almost too high to be true. Bosch make a killing selling their 500W/hr battery for about £600 and at least it has a class-leading BMS and can be easily sold on. £510 for 208W/hr moves well beyond 'bleeding edge' into 'taking the p^ss' territory IMHO. At that price the ALP...

    Orbea Gain auxiliary battery

That would bring the weight of battery, motor and drive train to 4.7kg for 450W/hr or about 5kg for 500W/hr. The Bosch ALP motor and drive unit is 3.2kg plus battery weight, so for the 500W/hr one it's 6kg. That's a relatively small edge in weight terms. It's certainly going to be interesting...

    Bosch Range

I agree. I'd swap the whole estimated range thing on the Intuvia for a battery indicator that showed % remaining, like on, for example, every smartphone ever. I did 70km yesterday, mostly with motor off or on Eco. Had 5 bars (but not full) at start and had just dropped to 3 bars by the end...

Bosch cx motor failed again 4th

Ah. Stop riding them through lakes then. They don't like water :) Seriously four motors failing so quickly is almost unheard of. People on here have 10k+ use out of one CX motor and they have a pretty good reputation for being bombproof unless you get water in them. You must be incredibly...

    Charging Station For E-bikes

Bosch currently sell a 6A fast charger for about £150. It will charge a 500W/to full in 3 hours. Uses a normal plug. An hour long stop would give you 175W/hr or so which actually isn't bad. Like I said, if I ran a bike barn or cycle cafe I might buy a couple. But, really only 3 types of...

    Charging Station For E-bikes

Yes. Charging is something you do on a long tour overnight or for most of a day in the office. In either case you would take the battery off and use your own charger. Maybe if I owned a bike barn or specialist cyclist cafe I would invest in one or two Bosch fast chargers for customers, but...

    Charging Station For E-bikes

I don't really see the need if I'm honest. It's a lot different than the need for charging stations for cars as the vast majority of us take the battery off to charge. Just take the charger with you when you're on a long tour and then you can use any plug in any office, B&B, pub or cafe. Far...

Change of PSI changed my biking life!

Emergency use? Unless you are in a race they would just seem to be a waste of money and incredibly environmentally unfriendly. A cheap dual action pump will have you from flat to 60PSI in 2-3minutes - what's the rush? And 40mm wide ebike tyres shouldn't exactly punture very often - if they do...
