Educating fellow cyclists - what do you reckon?

<joke>The dilemma of untrammelled libertarianism is the individual's freedom to accept negative consequences for other people</joke>. :p

Educating fellow cyclists - what do you reckon?

@tillson, thanks. Thus far, the red light camp is winning - I'll be a touch surprised if a consensus emerges around that, but it is most interesting. I'd hate to think I might be motivated by a desire to 'seek out fools', and of course I'd deny it; but then we all live in our own experimental...

Educating fellow cyclists - what do you reckon?

Aha, interesting - a split of opinion! On "minding my own business", isn't the reputation of the cycling community all of our business? In any case, if I were to see a more serious wrong-doing (say, a child being beaten up by other children) should I just ignore it? On that basis, "mind your...

Educating fellow cyclists - what do you reckon?

Hi all Let me preface this by saying I've been happily doing 20-30 miles/week on my Juicy Sport for seven months, and been car-free for five. I'm a road user, not an off-roader, and I try to improve my cycling regularly, so as to reflect positively on the cycling community if possible...

    Anyone tried magic shine lights?

Thanks CheKmx, interesting. I have the MJ-808 direct from DealExtreme, but the velcro sleeve doesn't look like either of the recall pictures. Mine is a simple wrap-around velcro strap on a silver battery housing - so for the time being am presuming mine is not affected by the battery problem...

Bontrager Wireless transmitter, free to a good home

Trust this is not too off-topic :) I purchased a Bontrager wireless computer six months ago (think it was the 'Trip 4W' - it's one that retails in the UK for around 25GBP). Sadly, within a month or so, I finished a bike journey to find the securely fixed computer missing from the handlebars...

    Homemade *bright* LED light setup

Interesting thread! By coincidence, I just built a custom rear lamp, and am powering it off the battery on my Juicy Bike. The main lamp component is a 52-LED signage cluster from Maplin. This is somewhat similar to Grandad's rear lamp project (on page three on this thread) but with a larger...

Elmoto - not a pedelc but looks cool...

I'm not au fait with insurance requirements for mopeds. Presumably this is required - what sort of cost is this? The GBP price, converted from USD, would be £3,651.92. That said, import duties, carriage costs and exchange fluctuations would be likely to increase that.

    Juicy Sport 2010 review

Folks, Thought I'd pop together a review of my new bike. I mainly gave it the thumbs up, and have put together a niggles list that I am sure Bob and co will be pleased to look at. I don't remember seeing a good set of photos before I went to see it, so I've posted a gallery. Trust it is...

Lifecycle electric bikes- anyone have one??

Hi jaycat, I'd echo the suggestion to try the Juicy brand, who also do a step-through frame. I have their Sport model, which is on a oversize mountain-bike frame - the 36v motor is very powerful, and I am generally very pleased with it. At full throttle, it can carry my 12.5 stone weight on...

Front lighting suggestions for 36v bike

Thanks all for your thoughts - the DealExtreme ones seem to offer a good cost/brightness ratio. However Straylight's point about running out of power is well made: I did a 18-20 mile round trip on Sunday, and since I'd used the throttle assistance quite a bit, the battery died completely. I...

    2 New Juicy Bikes

Btw, I was stopped by a chap today in Birmingham city centre who appeared to be very knowledgeable about e-bikes, though he didn't have one of his own. He appeared most impressed with the Juicy Sport, so Bob you might have another enquiry via your website :)

Front lighting suggestions for 36v bike

Addendum: there is a thread about this over at Endless Sphere. However since it is all US-centric, I am not sure it is of much use to UK/EU readers - and I tend to be averse to ordering components from abroad.

Front lighting suggestions for 36v bike

Hi all Just purchased a new Juicy Sport Original from Eco Republic and I'm generally very pleased with it. I plan to take some pictures and write up a review at some point. In the meantime, I am buying some bits and pieces to help complete my necessary kit. Just purchased a new Bontrager...

    Illegal Bikes

@flecc - so a e-bike capable of exceeding 16mph would just be tested as a motorcycle, I would expect - £85 for the SVA. @lemmy - I understand that more mistakes are made at higher speeds, but I'd have thought the problem is not so much the speed as the impact upon legal e-bikers of illegal...

    Urbanmover UM44S

Mike63, could your battery just be on the way out - maybe it wasn't well cared for by the previous owner? I wonder if it would be worthwhile finding a shop near you that demonstrates Wisper bikes, and that you could borrow a good well-charged battery from their demo model? If this improves...

... and would such a vehicle require a registration plate? Not sure where you'd put it! :(

Had to look that up! SVA = Single Vehicle Approval. Sounds like that would be v. expensive - has anyone here tried it?
