New wheel build - am I biting off more than I can chew ?

Thanks awol - wait for a rainy day I guess ! Re. the motor change, I think I have got my head round it now. So the only way to reliably get more speed would be to move to a higher voltage system with a bigger battery or less range and more importantly more weight :( Having spent some time...

New wheel build - am I biting off more than I can chew ?

That's a good idea - I assume you mean car touch up paint - do you think that would that stick to the spokes if I decreased them thoroughly ?

    Tyre pressure query

Is what is stated on the tyre the maximum pressure and not the optimum/recommended one ? I realise it is trial and error but when you say work backwards from the max pressure what sort of values are typical - my max is 44psi so would say 35 psi be a good starting point ?

Thoughts on my first e-bike build

Those Marathon Plus tyres look really good so I will switch to them when I get my first puncture (hopefully a long way off !). Do you use the 'Original' or the 'Tour' ? In the meantime are there any instant fix your tyre type products that you can squirt into your inner tube after the puncture...

New wheel build - am I biting off more than I can chew ?

My idea is to keep all the ancillary components from my existing hub. So the voltage will be the same as will be speed controller. So what do you think will be the effect of the larger motor in terms of torque, speed and battery usage ? (Note to self - must get around to fully understand how...

New wheel build - am I biting off more than I can chew ?

Yes, I considered that but although part of the rim is black there is a stainless part for use by people with rim brakes. To be honest it is not that noticeable - I have got that many gadgets and bits and pieces on the bike and the back wheel is surrounded by a rack, a motorcycle type box and...

New wheel build - am I biting off more than I can chew ?

Sounds right up my street. I am most definitely no spring chicken but love finding out about things I have no experience of. Got your point about buying new spokes - also has the added advantage that I will have a lot to practice on ! I should imagine it is like a lot of things - first time...

New wheel build - am I biting off more than I can chew ?

I have recently put a rear wheel with a hub motor on my brand new hybrid bike (see another thread). Unfortunately the wheel does not match the front one cosmetically so I have come up with an idea which I would appreciate some feedback on please. I now have a 250W motor but quite fancy a 350W...

Thanks - our posts crossed - see my photo of the graphic on the box.

    Tyre pressure query

Yes, bingo - you are right. Looking at the graphic again (I hate these instructional graphics) it seems to say it is the minimum pressure to maintain a seal.

    Tyre pressure query

I have never been very good with these type of graphics but this one seems a bit obscure - any Idea what they mean ?

    throttle vs higher power setting

I did a test on this yesterday with my rear hub motor (details in signature). I set the power level to 5 on the King Meter and adjusted my gears to give near perfect cadence (think that is the terminology !). If I just turned the pedals but at a lower speed that the gearing required I got a...

    Tyre pressure query

Apologies as this thread is not strictly related to electric bikes other than it concerns my bike which is electric. I have a Cannondale hybrid bike which I have put a motorised rear hub on. I am looking for puncture options so have recently bought a spare inner tube to carry around with me...

Thoughts on my first e-bike build

Thanks for the replies :) I have been down to a large bike shop (part of a chain) and two guys in there were very dismissive about pouring the sealant into my existing tyres (at least the brand they sold). They said it had a limited working life and would also gunge up my valves. They told me to...

Thoughts on my first e-bike build

Your comment about puncture resistant tyres has been niggling away at me and I have been very careful not to ride over those bits at road junctions which are just out of the main traffic flow and where piles of gravel and maybe dreaded nails and screws might accumulate and so far, so good...

    Waterproofing

Much of this discussion about cooling goes above my head. I think I read somewhere that Statorade is for non geared direct drive hubs. Don't know if this is true or not but in any case would someone who understands all this briefly explain it for dummies and would I, as a geared hub owner...

Thoughts on my first e-bike build

It is a long time since I have been there are no doubt there have been many changes. I absolutely loved it and was very lucky to be able to hire a kayak on one of the small rivers with not one other person around. Stunning scenery amongst the Karst mountains. There was a lot of bike hire but...

Woosh XF08 CST rear hub kit on 2001 Raleigh Stonefly

I did a test with the same motor but only checked Level 5 where I got a (remarkably) consistent maximum of 17.2mph on flat roads with no wind. This is on a Cannondale Quick CX3 which has an ex motor weight of 12.28kg

    Battery monitoring

No voltage display anywhere unfortunately. Even so as I understand it voltage only gives a rough idea of battery condition. I think what you need is a shunt and some kind of ammeter. There are some of these on eBay as caravan and boat owners need to know how many usable amp hours they have but I...
