    Lifepo4

I don't see where your getting the 10Amps limit from either. Your not confusing amps with amps hours are you? When I ordered my LiFePO4 battery from ping (36 volts, 10 amp hour) I told him my main fuse was a 25 amp so he set the BMS for a continuous discharging current to about 25 amps. I...

    Give yourself an award...

Just got my road tax, so my campervan is back on the road. It's been off the road for 6 months - so that's my small contribution to easing climate change. Saved myself some money too as this time I only taxed it for 6 months £101 – saved £84 road tax. I will still be using the electric bike...

    Walkies!

Nice one Steve. Sanoodi Joined up and charted the hill below. Saves the trouble of trying to work it out ;) .

    Walkies!

I think your right James - got my measurements mixed up. I got the map from ordnancesurvey.co.uk - it says 1988 copyright, so got to be metric not imperial :o Get-a-map online free from Ordnance Survey, Britain's national mapping agency In my defence, I've been using an old imperial map...

    Walkies!

Not sure about the maths, but here goes. Using an Ordnance survey map. I estimate the hill is 1 km long and rises from 18 ft to 117 ft giving 99ft rise. I calculate that .... 1 km = 3280ft .... So, 3280 divided by 99 will give the percentage? It works out at 33% - is that right? .

    Walkies!

Testing the new battery today resulted in me cycling around the back lanes here in sunny North Cornwall :D Unfortunately, the hills on these roads can be very steep. I found the first hill I could not cycle up - even standing up - so it was walkies for me. This probably won't every effect...

    LiFePo4, results so far

From what I can tell the battery packs are made up of what's called "prismatic cells". Skilfully soldered together and running/charging through a special BMS. Link below to endless sphere forum showing a pack undone. Endless-sphere.com • View topic - Duct Tape E-Bay Lifepo4s??? The...

at what fitness level does non electric become more suitable

Having returned to cycling after many years away, I found it difficult to manage the steep, long North Cornwall hills. An electric bike has been my saviour. With hills like mine, even cycling on an electric bike is a challenge. In the 14 months or so of ownership my fitness has increased (much...

    Close Call?

Glad your ok carpetbagger. I think, if I ever started with the proverbial "nine lives" - I must be well into the minus figures now :o I have appreciation for any good driver be they male or female. But it's interesting, that both carpetbagger's and my close calls have been with seemingly...

Dilemma with replacing my SLA batteries

Glad all's well with your battery Frank. Cycled mine today until it cutout - reached 18.5 miles (knees are sore now). Very pleased with it. I also had a chap in a 4x4 pull me over to ask about the bike - that's a first :) LiFePo4 Test on Flickr - Photo Sharing! .

    Love them Hills?

Being "green" is not the best way forward.

So flecc thinks we should reduce the world population to say around one billion - nature has tried several times to rid the world of Homo sapiens but the trouble is we are so resilient we keep coming back - I blame 85 million years of evolution ;) Human evolution - Wikipedia, the free...

Being "green" is not the best way forward.

I don't see where you are going with this flecc? Are you making a statement? Or are you saying the world is going to hell in a teacup? The world is over populated - yes it is. But the world is very unlikely to reduce its population unless some sort of disaster befalls the population or...

    Are electric bikes a paradox?

Whenever one sees adverts for electric bikes there is nearly always a line (in the advert) that say’s, something along the lines of; “Electric bikes are great for giving you that extra help up the hills”. And yet, hills are the one type of terrain that kills them dead. Shouldn’t these adverts...

E-bikes will not exist in 10 years time

Sadly all technology has its day. Videotape was the bee's knees until DVD came along. While I have no doubt that electric bikes are improving, the mass market is not there and probably never will be. It's hard to admit it (being an electric bike enthusiast) but I think many consider electric...

Dilemma with replacing my SLA batteries

The lights confused me, so I emailed Ping about them. One is the power light - red all the time. The other is the charging light - switches red to green, red when charging, green when charged. My battery must have been almost fully charged because the charger went red/green for about ten...

Dilemma with replacing my SLA batteries

This is my last intended entry on this thread, as this is the report on the test run with the new battery – an opportune point to bring this to a conclusion  I just took the electric bike out for it’s first test run with the new battery – and I am very impressed with the results. I...

    Emergency tyre repair

My mate used it in the tube of his back tyre (250cc trail motorcycle) when he got a slow puncher. 4 years later when he sold the bike it was still in the back wheel – never went down again. Holts Tyre Weld is designed to seal slow punctures and works best in slow moving wheels (max speed 30mph...

    Tyre pressure -maximum

I don't know about ebikes, as I have only had mine just over 12 months. However, I have always inflated my mountain bike tyres 5psi below the recommended maximum. I am doing the same with my ebike. My tyre markings say 55psi so I run mine at 50psi. Check it weekly. I can't say it has stopped...

Factors that kill an ebikes range

I love my ebike, it's the best thing since sliced bread. Unfortunately, I've been very disappointed with its range. Even after going to great lengths (taking the best part of 6 months gathering information) to get the right type of bike, for what I wanted, I have found other overlooked factors...
