    Mechanical doping ???

Even if mentioned technologies were not being used your point is irrelevant. I was merely pointing out the technology to greatly reduce size and weight of motors and small drive trains with massive reductions already exists. EPO / Blood transfusions,/ Human growth hormone etc etc are not common...

    Mechanical doping ???

Siemens have recently announced an electric motor with a power density of 5kw per kg..that's at least 10 times density of motors currently used in ebikes. ( as far as we know) Putting that in perspective a 250 w motor of same construction would be under 100g... Micro motors and nano motors can...

Use of gears and pedal assist

By coincidence there has been a long thread about this subject recently. The motor in my yam mid drive is most efficient at around 2k revs. This (we believe) equates to a cadence of around 65, so in this case whatever gear gives a cadence of 65-75 should in theory give best range. (and not...

    Mechanical doping ???

I know, I was being ironic. Our local school has great facilities, our hospital is brilliant and roads fairly ok.. Just as ab OT asside...recent study showed EPO gave no performance increase and merely put users at higher risk of heart attack !! So perhaps LA was not so guilty ????

    Mechanical doping ???

In theory they only ban and fine guilty parties ??? Are we also saying UCI couldn't come to right conclusion when they have all the facts.. The whole case is rather different to "drug" cheats. In that much of their cheating involves illegal procedures/substances. ( blood transfusions in vans is...

    Mechanical doping ???

What School sports ground ? All sold for housing years ago..

    Mechanical doping ???

Totally agree with that. Suspect cheats are endemic in probably all sports. The farce in football typifies it. Seb Coe in athletics, getting venue to town his major sponsor just happens to have headquarters in..goes on and on..but that still does not mean this " villain" ( I don't see her as a...

    Mechanical doping ???

No the bike was at least in Parc Ferme ( pits not her van)and probably used. Seems many on here know more than UCI. Simple fact is she is as guilty as sin but just like LA did , she cries innocent and appeals to the apologists amongst us and disappears for a while. She has broken no Laws ( the...

    Mechanical doping ???

According to reports A) She did use the bike.(The UCI confirmed on Sunday that " a mechanically doped bike was used in world championship cyclocross", perhaps not this girl then ?) B) Authorities are now using infra red heat cameras to view hot spots on bikes. So it cant be that easy to spot. C)...

    Good video.. Thanks for posting.

    Mechanical doping ???

I like your post Phil...humour and irony are much sharper tools than condescension. Am I missing something here. Are we actually saying the girl didn't cheat, the bike wasn't used,or sky sports have made entire story up ??? Or perhaps bike doesn't exist ?? She,s taken early retirement to ride...

    Mechanical doping ???

Think you are being a touch naive here flec. Having srutineered at motor events you,d be amazed at both folks ingenuity and gall to cheat. The technology is easily available with many solutions for either freewheeling when not in use ,to bike overspinning motor . Secondly explain why she has...

    Mechanical doping ???

So she,s retired for nothing ??? Motor could easily be straight cut pinion so would spin in reverse and 100w would easily off set its weight penalty, if it couldn't electric bikes would never work.( her average output without help is unlikely to be over 400 watts. ( if that) Just do power to...

    Mechanical doping ???

Old news ? She retired from cycling around 4pm today. ( Monday) and isn't defending charges...( literally I suppose)

    Mechanical doping ???

A new term has entered cycling, first time I,ve heard it anyway... Apparently a Belgian rider ( Dreitsche) has been accused of " mechanical doping". She had a hidden motor on her bike !!! Presumably a battery as well. She hasn't denied charge ( joke there somewhere) and is not fighting against...

Cadence rate against motor rpm ???

I,m already on one knee replacement so I,m stuffed.. . Your comments totally agree with surgeon who worked on knee last November...Asked him about when and how to get back cycling ( I avoided TKR with graft/ stem cell) Started on ex bike with very low resistance but also told to avoid very...

Cadence rate against motor rpm ???

Yep whenever I read about cadence I think I,m way too slow. But then again ( I,m not comparing my self with any one on tour) tour winners have a massive range. ( Think Lance A was one of highest, believe it averaged 100 . ( only by memory, not checked) Does seem pedelecs are geared more towards...

Cadence rate against motor rpm ???

Think Think you are over simplyfying real world situation. You are perfectly correct the motors mentioned do give max torque at zero rpm but at approaching zero rpm are woefully ( for e motors) inefficient. ( sub 60 %) Efficiency varies between around 72 % at 1500 rpm up to max of 97% at...

Cadence rate against motor rpm ???

Cheers...Bosch system will be different to yam ( for chain ring but not cadence) I believe its chain ring rotates 2.5 x crank. Yam chain ring and crank are equal. That's a low cadence...but presumably that means Cadence of around 50 matches 1500 motor rpm. Roughly 30 to 1 reduction ?? So max...
