    Elysium Bikes

I met a guy with one of these about two weeks ago. He was very vocal about his 'off road switch' and addmitted that he used it all the time. He claimed a 75mile range, which was about the point I extracated myself from the conversation.

Knocking and grinding sound from hub motor?

Had a sound like that on my bike last week. Turned out to be a 'pimple' on the brake disc, had to file it off. Does the sound go away when brake is applied?

    First ebike conversion kit recommendations...

As above. I initially thought,'250w, that's weedy, my sds drill is more powerful than that'. What I didn't realise is that stated motor wattage has bog all to do with what it actually consumes. That is entirely down to the current rating of your controller, and whether your battery is man...

    Derestricted or legal

To be honest, I don't really know. Most of the time I use my Ezee kit in assist 2/5. This has me going around the Welsh hills and occaisional flat bits at 8-14mph. I know that the motor gives a no load speed (on the stand) of 19mph in 5/5. But I never use that on the road 'cos it will eat...

Woman fighting for life after 'e-bike' hit-and-run in east London

Ahh but there are mobility issues and the disability word comes into play. Therefore the pc police forbid you having anything to say about it. In the supermarket on Saturday there was a woman in a large one of these (sure it was meant for road rather than pavement). As she turned into the till...

Woman fighting for life after 'e-bike' hit-and-run in east London

Good God it's mayhem out there, I never realised the world was such a dangerous place! Concerned of West Wales. Seriously this kind of hyperbolic, emotive ranting is why I no longer read newspapers or even listen to the BritishBroadcorpingCasteration. I'll just hunker down in my Welsh bunker...

Servicing a used 4 year old freego wren advice

Not much to do really if it's all working. If the brakes are giving good stopping power without the handles coming all the way to the bars, then they're OK. V brakes can be a bit pernickety in that they don't release evenly. So worth a check to see if it's binding. I've found discs to be...

    Pedal problems

If you mean same problem as in clouting my shins - then yes I do every so often. Never had bearings wear out. My current pedals are some from Halfrauds that have micro generators in them and flashing led's. Attract a lot of attention, even in daylight. They were around £14 IIRC and have the...

    Cycling hostility and decline

It's all the money they've got from legalised cannabis sales  Looks like the bloke fell off his bike too:cool:

    Braking motor cut

Simples ! Approaching a junction, you need to be in the right gear to get away from the junction, so you have to peddle to change gear - but you need to come to a stop. So pull on brake whilst changing gear.

New Legal Speed Limit: What should it be?

The highest national speed limit is 70mph. Yet you can go out and buy a perfectly legal family saloon that's capable of 125mph. (Don't even get started on 'legal' motorbikes.) How come? If the same assist limiting were applied to vehicles then none would be capable of exceeding 70mph. Just...

New Legal Speed Limit: What should it be?

So here's a thing, you are clocked on your bike doing, lets say, 19mph. The copper notices it is an assisted bike and pulls you over. How does he/she prove that the asisstance was actually being used? Sure there is no load speed on the wheel but only measured by the bikes speedo, hardly...

    Powered Bike Trailer

Where do I start? Power without pedalling is a no no, as is 27Km/h and as it's so unusual it will attract attention. The powered wheel has very little weight on it. May be OK in the flat lands but on our more serious hills it's gonna scrub like crazy, especially on loose or slimey surfaces. I...

    E-kit purchase - questions from a newbie

1 Crank Drive, this is a motor mounted on the bottom bracket. 2 Yes if they are used inefficiently. Most 250w motors are geared (normally 5:1) and operate most efficiently in a range of 50-8-% of their maximum speed. In practice this is roughly 8mph up to 15mph. Hubs only suffer if going...

    E-kit purchase - questions from a newbie

One way to achieve the speed is to have a motor specced for a 20" wheel, built into your bigger wheel. However, this way you will loose hill climbing torque. Another way is to use a 36v motor and overvolt it at 48v. Yoy will gain 25% speed and torque - approx. However to do this you will have...

Are Zombie Lanes coming to a city near you

It doesn't matter how much paint they put on the ground, people just ignore it. i.e. 'bike lanes'? I find lane discipline to be declining overall, be that pedestrians or drivers. I too don't get the dipsticks who wander around with earphones on. I even saw a woman driving with them in...

    PAS boffin help

OK so that's a 10s5p battery. 10cells in series, 5 strings in parrallel. What this doesn't tell us is the current rating of the cells or make or type. If you can put up a picture of it someone may know. 36v 11Ah is only a 396Wh battery. That's actually quite small, especially for hilly...
