New wheel build - am I biting off more than I can chew ?

Agree with all that's been sais on the batteries. I'd say, if you're carrying both , use them both, don't keep one as a spare. It stresses the batteries less and range anxiety disappears into thin air. Suddenly you can take that lane, on a whim, that you've always wondered where it came out...

New wheel build - am I biting off more than I can chew ?

The higher wattage motor is not more powerful, it is merely capable of having a higher current passing through it for a stated time, without overheating. So I don't think you'll be going any faster. One way to achieve higher speed and torque is to run a 36v motor at 48v. 33% increase...

More fully electric buses for London

I also remember electric trolley buses in walsall, staffs. they were very late to get rid of them and the associated infrastructure. Bet they're kicking themselves now. They certainly didn't sneak up on you though. Bit like a milk float on steroids !

    London Calling.....

If you like the bike you've got, go for it. You end up with a bike you know well and components that can be changed/renewed by yourself. Unlike the Bosch and Yamaha systems where you are tied in to their parts and labour costs. If a Bosch motor fails (and they do) all your supplier can do is...

    2018 ORBEA GAIN

I agree, my baterries charge to 41.5 and 41.2, no problem connecting them. One caveat, I always check the voltages before connecting, rather do that than have a big blue flash or something worse. Do remember to disconnect them before charging.

    Volt Pulse x

If you are even moderately handy with the spanners you can do it yourself. Most kits are plug and play and there's plenty of help to be had here. You end up with a bike you know much more about than an of the shelf job. Also, in the unlikely circumstance of something going awry, components...

    Volt Pulse x

Wow, that's a different animal. Crank set is 52/42, that's a big set, sort of thing roadies use. And with a 25;12 on the rear that's a speed machine. You'd be pushing beyond assistance to get a decent cadence and hill climbing would be 'energetic'. If you're young enough and strong enough go...

Thoughts on my first e-bike build

I use Swalbe Marathon plus tyres and slime in the tube. Don't even have to pump them up any more. The 12mm kevlar in the Marathons doed make them a bit stiff and some comment on their grip, but I've never had any problems (road riding and occaisional path).

Nice looking bike. Spec seems Ok, maybe a tad expensive but then it's complete with lights, mudguards and rack, ready to go. Says battery is Panasonic so should be OK, but it doesn't say which cells, maybe worth asking as there are those on here that can tell you how they will perform under...

    Fat guy drama...

There you go:) I can vouch for those motors, my wife has a Big Bear with a front mounted hub. It's a prodigious hill climber even in the front (where things can get a bit tricksy) I wouid imagine that, in the rear with your weight over it, it's never going to scrub. My experience with hubs is...

Can you software limit a bafang motor to 250w to make it road legal?

The only time I've seen or spoken to a copper whilst riding was a local pcso who was on a mountain bike. He showed a great interest as he was trying to persuade his seargent to get him one. He never mentioned laws at all, I think if he hadn't had to shoot of to a traffic incident (a...

    Fat guy drama...

Those switchable power motors are direct drive so will be pretty useless up hills. Fine for high speed flat riding but inefficient with a tendancy to get hot on hills and are therefore battery eaters to boot. You need a good geared hub motor, something like a Bafang bpm. Have a look at the...

    Laugh of the Day

Just returned from cycling the quiet lanes of south Devon. Many examples of folk strolling along all across the road relying on sound of car to alert them. I have a very loud Pashley ding dong bell but it seems not to alert people, I think it's too friendly sounding. Then there is the...
