    Very lightweight e-bikes

I wonder if this one really is sub-12kg and how decent the frame and forks really are : http://annad.en.alibaba.com/product/1437861210-218567348/11kg_electric_road_carbon_buy_electric_bike.html What exactly would it really cost to land one here ? Notwithstanding all the concerns, would really...

    Ebike - long range

I wouldn't want one if the 2nd battery was on the rear rack with a rear hub motor. It would need to be half in the triangle, half behind the seat post, supplies and panniers on the rack. On a 'proper' touring setup to accommodate extended "overnighting" you can get away with this sort of thing...

    Ebike - long range

I wonder if they are Panasonic prismatic batteries like their earlier ones or a different technology, manufacturer or type. It will definitely be interesting to see how they fit and also how much they cost relative to multiple batteries from other manufacturers. Also how long they take to...

    A minimalistic kit proposal

I wouldn't personally try that .... plastic chain guards fixed to frames are prone to breaking at their fixing points and additional weight will only add to that risk. Especially when coupled with a few bumps or the odd small pothole.

Cycle to Work scheme - the employers side of things

Is the following correct in so far as the company's corporation tax position is concerned ? : I assume the company will get capital allowances on the plant & machinery purchases ? This could be as much as 100% in year one if they have capacity within the AIA (annual investment allowance)...

    A hill to far!

You should stop feeling sick and like death is imminent after a couple more attempts (I had a taste of it earlier in the week with a very nasty hill I was taking on fine at a decent pace only last June & September). It's frightening how fast you go out of condition when you stop riding even for...

Great looking now ! Just sort that dangling connector under the saddle and it's worthy of the show room !

Anyone used a DC to DC converter to run lights from battery?

Saves charging the light battery and taking on/off bike (or forgetting to take it - something you can't do with the bike battery !). I'd much rather get on my e-bike and switch my lights on than faff about with multiple batteries. It's one thing I wish I'd done with the Kalkhoff rather than...

Anyone used a DC to DC converter to run lights from battery?

Hmmm ... the current drawn by a single CREE+rear light at a main 36V battery is tiny (less than 0.5A) and the effect on range / 'juice' over even 3 hours of night riding is likely to be negligible. You won't dazzle motorists if your lights are properly adjusted.

Anyone used a DC to DC converter to run lights from battery?

One of these tapped off your battery +ve before the controller, common grounded to 0V. Output up to 3A at stepped down voltage, so can run easily 2 x 1-LED Cree T6 front lights and a 3W rear light. Step it down from 36V to 9V to match battery packs normally used with magicshine clones for...

    Ex-demo / ex-display sale

Blimey - I never knew you were based in Cheltenham with a test centre. Were you there in late 2012 ? If so you were pretty much right under my nose and I wound up going all the way to NEC to test eBikes ! Wasn't aware of the forum at the time and googling for some reason didn't point me in your...

    Gearing finally sorted

Not so sure how much real difference the extra grunt from derailleur version on a 250W Bosch system would make longer term, when you'd got used to any initial marginal benefit. Main thing is, though - at least you didn't get a bike with a hub motor ! Very low speed climbing + hub motor =...

    Gearing finally sorted

Interesting. Glad you've found a solution. I don't think you'd have the same issues if you wanted such low speed climbing with a bike that operated on speed sensor / constant 'stepped' assist rather than the Bosch assist profile. Isn't it as much the assist profile as the hub that's at the root...

    how much faster by eBike.....???

Maybe without a torque sensor fitted :p :D ... perhaps it's coupling these claims with the Bosch-style torque sensor systems which doesn't sit right with me. You'd be busting your a**e to get the bikes to deliver that and your consumption measurement would be through the roof. I still don't...

    how much faster by eBike.....???

There's a proviso, though. The battery consumption when running a derestricted crank drive bike at maximum speeds on the flat is comparable to a very steep climb. A 400W/h battery will exhaust very quickly indeed if run full-tilt throughout.to get theoretical high-Watt performance for 30 minutes...

    Faulty battery, 20ah/36v shrink wrap.

New BMS needed by the looks of it.. I'm sure mine has the 20-40 fitted because it still supports 30A continuously for a considerable time The web listing has always said 15A continuous for that battery but in practice the BMS fitted didn't cause cutout like that during continuous...

    Website update is bad

After a year and over 2,000 posts I've clearly "just joined" :D. Is it like moving into a rural village where you're still a new kid on the block after 15 years ?
