electric bike - 1st one - help please!

Bristol is quite good and I think Swindon as well. It's the right idea to try a lot. Whoosh big bear covers the cheap end. Then at least two dealers will offer you a good bikes. 1800 is enought to get one of the best bikes if you keep your eyes and ears open. Most of last years stock has gone...

D8veh Yes it is a generalised statement. You can design a motor to be efficient at almost any speed. But not stalled. If a motor is stalled or near stall. Little motive force is produced. High current flows and overheated motors happen. My Panasonic crank drive climed steep hills around bath...

Unfortunately there are a a number of hills around here that hit 20% such as pope walk. Extreme I know but they exist. This is when gearing stops the magic smoke leaking

    Choices for 1st Pedelec...

The wall is power cutting out IAW the legal speed limit. So cruse at 15.5 mph or build up a sweat? They should all behave like this. kalkoff do have a good reputation. Personally I would rather have a quality second hand bike than new cheapo one.

d8veh especially If a bike is restricted to 250 watts. The gearing in a crank drive gives you the option of maintaining a higher motor speed to remain efficiently driving the bike. A hub motor can slow stall and enter the highly inefficient zone providing little drive and overheatIng the...

A crank drive is better on hills especially with the larger cyclist. Don't try to save money by buying a smaller battery. Save up longer or buy the whoosh. Good luck and welcome

    Bike for the Larger Rider?

It's a bit like is a BMW worth twice a Skoda? Both will do. 70mph. Kallhoff is top gear. Whoosh has excellent value for money reputation both will do the job just don't test ride the K if you can't afford it.

Too many options in my mind, but... any good?

Test ride some bikes. It's the only way to really feel what they mean and to understand a good and bad bike. Always ride the bike with the power off as well. A bike that is rubbish then has to waste more energy dealing with that. test rides you need to.
