    Another Newbie (South Essex)

Hi Darrana, Her's a link to my thread on converting my Crossfire 3. It was done with an Ezee kit, not the cheapest but it's proved robust and a prodigious hill climber (4000 west Wales miles so far). Cheaper 250w front hub is the Bafang bpm available from Woosh. You will need a torque bracket...

Hello im a very newbie :-)

Hi Jaq, To get you going you'll need to give a bit of information. What type of riding are we talking, road, track, off road, leisure, commuting? Whats the terrain like hilly or flat? What sort of distance are you thinking, although I can guarentee it'll be more than you think. And - er - ahem...

    Newbie e-biker

That could be it then. Batteries don't like being left. Give this a go. Use the bike and charge as usual. However leave the charger on for a couple of hours after it has apparently finished charging. This is to allow the battery management system (BMS) to balance the individual cells in the...

It sounds like the battery is going below the low voltage cutout. This is to protect the battery from too low a voltage. By the time you have walked up the hill the battery chemistry has 'caught up' so system can run again. I t possibly indicates that the battery is in a poor state either...

    Pedals and knees

No idea about clipless pedals but a sports therapist told me that any horizontal foot rotation, on the pedal, is really bad for knees. It's easy to see, while you're riding, if this is happening then you can work on keeping your foot facing forward. Worked for me!

Wow, so that's 1344W. Seems like motorbike territory to me;)

I think you may be hitting the limitations of the battery technology. The more current you draw the harder the battery chemistry has to work to deliver that current. So it heats up, increasing the internal resistance of the battery, which means more volt drop internally, so less delivered to...

+1 I'ts definitely current capacity you need not voltage rating, also irreversibility is crucial.

    Battery charging

Don't panic! Charge 'till the charger led goes green, then leave it for a bit (this is when cell balancing goes on) then turn it off. Simples;). The 80% charge thing is if you're putting the battery into storage. Charge it to full, go out and put 5-10 miles on it to 'knock the edge of', then...

Looks to me like that plug/socket combo is way under rated, which is possibly why it melted in the first place. Any electric bike is going to draw more than 5A. Most of the panel mount sockets I can find are 2A(Schurter) or 5A(IEC) and I can't find a combo where both the plug AND socket are...

    Battery charging

I'd say just use it and charge it. I have a 3 year old 14.5Ah battery stil going strong now on it's 176th charge, each one between 10 and 25 miles. 15 mile round trip should be fine on 11.5Ah unless it's very hilly and you are very big. If the bike is in store outside, keep the battery...

Well there you go, I was searching for the wrong thing. Never was any good at lateral thinking - thanks.

£848 seems well expensive. Have you seen the prices here? http://wooshbikes.co.uk/?cdkit If you speak to them they can help you with the battery.

    Battery Bag

Hi Guys, I know this has been covered before, but I can't find the right posts for links. Some time ago I converted a bike for guests to use. It's proving popular with sister in law and daughter both enjoying hilly sojourns. The Insat battery in a bag I already had, it looks like this: It's...

    Hydraulic Disc brakes

I recently upgraded my front Tektro mech to Deore hydraulic. I did it for two reasons, firstly the mech was pulsing, much like a rim brake on a buckled wheel. Yet there was no sign of the disc being buckled. Secondly I was running short of braking power on some of the steeper hills here. Not...

    Interesting

Ooooo - can I put a 1000w hub on it?

    It hasn't taken long.....

Yup, the male ego doesn't last long when left in the dust by an effortlessly gliding other half. I know 'cos that's how I ended up with my bike:D:confused:
