    E-assisting a SWB Recumbent

I like your idea. A mid motor to help the smooth running of your bent. I have a bust BH with good motor and battery. And am working out how to make a bent with that. Similar thing lots of easy miles even if the wind blows up.

    Best choice?

Perhaps I could have been clearer. There are plenty of electric bikes on eBay. Look for step through with a frame size around 45 cm. But test ride is best. Try an electric bike with the power off as well as on. If you can't ride it on the flat unassisted. Then I wouldn't touch it. Some of the...

    Best choice?

There are several bike shops in Bristol. All will give you test rides. You need to do this to confirm what works for you. Then remember a bike you can pedal with the power off will run reality easy with the assist on. There are a few on eBay and some of the dealers here have offers ex display...

Bike with battery built in to the frame

Don't trust the regen. If it works it only gives you the odd watt. Not worth it for spoiling the down hill rush. The gearing needs looking at. My wife's Neo could climb a brick wall in first. As it is geared much to low/ slow for electric. But smart and stylish. If you work even a little you...

Well, I have just gone and done it - Kalkhoff BS10 ordered today

The other point is what happens when a car hits you? I was legal when the 4*4 got me. Now they are in court and I can sue. If my bike was derestricted I would have been in the ****. As it was my injured Face, arms and legs are all points for my solicitor to claim for.

That's the beauty of the lecy drive. On a good bike super miles are possible. I did 38 one day. It is smooth easy riding then.

    Test: Ebike against lycra racer.

The gears on the BH limit the downhill flat road speed with a 44 by 11 ratio. With a bigger front cog you might have held up on the downhill sections too. But my performance would be about the same when mine worked. If I spoofed the motor it would assist up to silly speed too.

Hello and advice on converting my bike

d8veh As the 500watt would be a continuous rate and the legal is 250 ave we go with a 100 watt ave. but up hill it is half a normal cyclists push. A good electric bike makes you feel like superman and you forget just how slow others are as you whizz past.

Hello and advice on converting my bike

Yes but then the other cyclist also slows. The op was I am a reasonable cyclist and want some extra whizz. As little as 100 watts would be some whizz 500watt is a tandem bike with lance Armstrong and some billy whizz,

Hello i am Neil from Lakeland

You can't buy a BH race any more but with a lot of sweat and effort I got 38 miles out of the small 300 watt ish battery with one. With a newer bike and bigger battery and sweat any bosh should do 40 miles but any normal racer would also do this with sweat too. My electric bike gives me much...

Hello and advice on converting my bike

If we talk a legal system with 15 mph cut out. You need less than 200 watts to cycle at this speed. So a 100w system would mean l almost no pedal input to cruse along. In fact for 100 watts from bike and you you get the calculated club cyclist crusing speed of 20 mph. The addition of an extra 5...

Hello and advice on converting my bike

Sensitivity? Cycle with a normal bike then add 100watts and see who sweats and who flys. Compared to a moped 100 watts is nothing but compared to no assist 100 turns you into superman

Hello i am Neil from Lakeland

Regen is not an effective energy source. Unless you are happy to go down hill slowly using regent on full as only break the returned energy is minimal. Bigger batteries more sweat all do more for the rangeo_O

Hello and advice on converting my bike

500 watt is a lot of extra for a fit cyclist. With a 250w and old fat man combo I was in the words of a fit mountain biker Dam fast. Impossible to keep up with up hill and quick away from the lights. He only stood a chance down hill. Even 100 watts smoothly added would give you serious zing.
