    Help! Ping Battery charging

No, don't leave it on. Disconnect once all the LEDs are on. It's fully charged and balanced. The only other thing to consider is maintenance if it's not being used for a while. It should be stored partially not fully charged and checked once a month to ensure it stays that way. Hill climbing is...

IF Reach - The perfect commuter bike

OLD is outer locknut dimension - the width of dropout needed for the hub. If the OLD is 135mm it's not changed by the width of freewheel. Single, 3spd, 6 spd, it would not change the OLD or the dropout width needed, it would still be 135mm. You would need the axle changed or modified, the point...

IF Reach - The perfect commuter bike

The axle controls the OLD of the hub, it's 135mm (or whatever) if you have an S/S or multi freewheel on it. The BPM hub which is well offset with 135mm spacing, looks like it might have been designed for a 126mm dropout with a S/S freewheel. By extending the drive side of the axle it takes a...

If you want to go anywhere near as fast as you say with a rear motor, please don't get a Brompton - it's not designed to be powered like that, and the 16" wheels add to the problem of handling and stability. The Uno isn't suitable either, it can't take a rear motor as it's too narrow at 120mm...

This is a 'Let's all save cwah from himself' thread :)

The Swift lets you choose a front or rear motor as it has a 100mm front dropout, plus it is much less 'bendy' frame than a Dahon. The downside is it doesn't fold as small as a Dahon or Brompton. If you're settled on a rear wheel motor, then the Dahon may suit your needs better. I wasn't talking...

This is a 'Let's all save cwah from himself' thread :)

The Uno has a front brake, a legal requirement in the UK, the rear is a hub or cruiser brake, so a front motor is needed - limited to a Cute or Tongxin. The Xootr Swift has 132.5mm rear and standard 100mm front dropouts, giving a good potential choice of motor. You can use this simulator...

As Jerry says, the dropout looks approx 128mm, no doubt meant to be 130mm, a bit narrow for a rear motor that might exceed the nominal 135mm. I'm not sure it makes sense to pay more for shipping and taxes on a bike of unproven quality, when the same money will buy a better product locally...

The folder is this one, a Dahon Uno: A full size Dahon folder that eventually had a BPM motor is this one: The Crystalyte 209 is discontinued and due for replacement about now. A big, heavy DD motor may not be the best idea on a small wheel folder, adds a lot of unsprung weight, and if you...

Following on from Jerry's comment about my Dahon hybrid, I'll be trying a Q85 on it which will take the weight to 10.1Kg. Add on 5 or 6Ah of Lipo, controller etc, should end up around 12-12.5Kg, although there is the possibility of a bit more weight skimming:) Not as compact as a Brompton, but...

    Moulton mini conversion???

Plenty of info about them:Moulton Mini The 14" rim is likely to be the biggest problem as it was 20h or 28h AFAIK, not ideal for building onto an e-hub. Some owners seem to have fitted bigger wheels with different forks. If a suitable rim is available it's feasible, a 328rpm hub would probably...
