    First Crash Of The Winter

XC tyres are designed to grip and corner well in loose soil, and dig into mud to grip the firmer layer underneath. In 700c size there isn't so much choice as 26" so XC is often used as an alternative to smooth road tyres. The heavy offroad ones that are popular in 26" are not likely to grip...

    Converted another Stingray Chopper

Hi Mark, I'll post some pics when the build is complete. I think he'll be posting a build thread on the E-S forum sometime soon. My involvement was confined to fitting the the BPM hub into the 4" wide rim! Alan

    Converted another Stingray Chopper

If you like the chopper look and style try these guys HANNAN CUSTOMS 9ft long and weighing in at 90lbs they're going to spend a lot of time getting looked at. The link is courtesy of one of my customers who is modifying a Stingray along these lines - complete with rear BPM motor. Alan

    Fun Bikes x2

This is certainly a popular use of conventional tandems - plenty of non-cycling partners make good stokers and enjoy riding without worrying about road skills. My wife has always been very supportive of my involvement with cycling and found it frustrating that she was unable to ride a bike well...

    Fun Bikes x2

They may be brilliant at building bikes and have an excellent reputation, but why on earth can't they design something with a little more elegance?? I know it doesn't impinge on functionality, but it certainly does influence plenty of people with sufficient money to buy them. It's not out of...

    BMS Battery conversion kit

Having tested several BPM motors bolted into a substantial steel truing stand, I was surprised at the amount of reverse force from the axle trying to push it's way out. I've always used torque arms on any BPM installation, whatever the frame material. I've tried a BPM hub with both the 9 and 12...

    Fun Bikes x2

Hi Scottyf and Flecc, Thanks for the compliments:) Yes, the BMX is a lot fun, especially passing other bikes with just a little gentle foot rotation. I've just been out trying it with the bigger battery - plenty of front wheelspin if required for effect:cool: Alan

    Fun Bikes x2

Two e-bikes that started as late summer builds. Not for commuting or any specific purpose, other than having a compact, nippy bike for local use, and a tandem to enable my non-cycling wife to enjoy the position of light duty stoker on some local day tours. e-BMX Based on a NOS Schwinn...

How many ebikes are replacing cars?

We started a six month trial of being car free around 3 years ago. As we live in the centre of a small town with an excellent range of shops, ours cars were getting very little use. Widespread parking restrictions around the local area made leaving the car at home the best option. I'm an...

Dead throttle/broken spoke Wisper 905 se

Hi Andy, I supply custom spokes from Sapim and DT Swiss spokes at a rather (lot!) cheaper price than the official price you've been quoted. I'd need the 2 parts of a broken spoke to check the length and nipple thread size. I can be contacted at alan@just1bike.com or via a PM on the forum. Alan

Hi Riche, Just looked again at your build thread, really nice conversion of a Scott! Alan

    BMS Battery conversion kit

Hi Riche, I totally agree with your comments -except why buy more of the same spokes that probably contributed to your initial problems? I'll admit to a possible bias right now, as I supply custom spokes and rebuild e-wheels, but you've just explained why I have a viable business:) Alan

    BMS Battery conversion kit

Yes, the KU93 has a separate input connector for a pedelec sensor. My Infineon units don't, other makes may well be different. Alan

    BMS Battery conversion kit

Just to reinforce D8veh's comments, I run 2 BPM 350W rear units, one on a solo bike, one on a tandem. I use both a 36V 15Ah Ping battery and a 12Ah bottle battery. Both are about the minimum requirement for reasonable performance, but they manage to haul a tandem with a lightweight (17st) crew...

    Front or rear drive conversion

Kona P2's are excellent, they usually take Bafang axles without having to file them open, but they come in at least 2 axle-crown lengths. If you go that route make sure they are the correct ones to match the existing forks. Alan

    Front or rear drive conversion

Too many stupid mishaps have occurred because of no brake cutouts, always safer to have them, possibly a bar mounted cutoff switch as well. The oversize headset isn't really a problem, adaptor cups and headsets are available from suppliers such as CRC and SJS. Steel forks such as these: ID...

    Front or rear drive conversion

Although most forks have the required 100mm dropout width for the front hub axle, they don't all have the clearance for the larger hub size. It's not uncommon for the taper of the fork blades or the dropouts not being on the inside of the blades, to cause the hub to rub or be impossible to fit...

    Conversion kit for Dahon Speed/Vitesse

I should have added these are the 36V version of the Q85:) The controller is optional if not required. Alan

    Conversion kit for Dahon Speed/Vitesse

I've a small batch of the Q85 hubs for 20" wheels arriving in the next couple of weeks. One is currently unsold, so if anyone might be interested in having it let me know. I'll then contact you when they arrive and see if you still want it. As a wheelbuilding business I can supply a finished...
