    Newbie advice

I snapped a frame once, on an ancient steel frame mountain bike. Went over a bump, then bam, the rear fork went - it'd had a hareline fracture for a while, judging by the amount of rust in the break. Caph's incident sounds similar, and why not be relaxed about it, getting angry won't help :) .

£250 Workplace Parking Space Tax coming?

Absolutely, and it could also be coupled with a government backed leasing scheme. Perhaps the design could be mass produced under licence in one of our idle car plants..

    Clicking "ratchet" sound 905SE

Spookily enough, just as this thread appeared, my bike developed the same clicking sound (cue: twilight zone music). I think Ive fixed it by swapping the pedals out from my other bike, so hopefully it was just the pedal bearing. Both set of pedals are shimano spd's, not the wisper originals btw.

£250 Workplace Parking Space Tax coming?

Ok then we should make them all drive about in g-wiz(s) :D . Or, even better, one of these:Welcome to TWIKE! Then if they ran out of juice, they can pedal home to mum.

£250 Workplace Parking Space Tax coming?

Though this was primarily introduced in an attempt to stop the decline of the motor industry. My view is that if we're to live in a capitalist society, then to prop up a manufacturing base that has no demand for its product, is totaly counter intuitive. These companies should either make...

£250 Workplace Parking Space Tax coming?

Speaking of Clarkson and his shameless promotion of 'Power....', I had an idea some time ago, mostly based on the roadsafety angle, but which could also arrest the relentless conditioning of young drivers. How about restricting anyone under say 25 to a maximum engine size of 1litre, with the...

    Bike service (Wisper)

Personally I've found the electrics of my Wisper 100% reliable over my 1500 miles of use, and the only servicing I've needed to do has been on the standard mechanical aspects of the bike. I'd say if you don't have any issues with the electrics then there's nothing to be done, the most complex...

£250 Workplace Parking Space Tax coming?

So what's the answer to the need for a far less car-centric culture? Seems to me that the only way to crowbar such embeded attitudes is to make it more unconfortable to drive. London has a fantastic public transport infrastructure, and yet the only way to relieve the traffic to any extent was to...

    Wisper 905SE Brakes

I think that's ridiculous, I mean, when does it become your bike - after the warranty period? I've changed the brake calipers entirely for Avids, and the only criticism I have of them is that sometimes they're a bit too good - I've (briefly :D ) skidded the back wheel trying to slow down in...

    Can you identify these conectors?

I think the one at a time approach is probably the best way, the pedelec sensor on my wisper only has 2 cores, so it's possible that one of yours is redundant. In which case, convention would suggest that the circuit is between the red and blue. If it were me, I'd start by pulling the red one...

    Can you identify these conectors?

I'd imagine that only one of the cores is the signal return to the controler, so you'd probably only need a single pole switch in this line.

    A ray of hope?

As an interesting aside, I personally agree with (most of;) ) this statement. I think that many office based jobs, given today's level of communication technology, could just as easily be done from home, and that there should be large incentives for people to do this, as it would render an awful...

    A ray of hope?

I think it will, as it's a far more efficient technology, with (aside from manufacture/shipping for retail) virtually no environmental impact. So if we could all build our own from scratch, it'd be perfect! Now there's a niche market, locally sourced bamboo bike kits...hmmm :)

    Wisper anomaly

I suppose it could be the sensor, as you're pedaling slowest when going up, and particularly when cresting a hill. So if the sensor is lacking sesitivity, or one of the magnets on the disc isn't being registered, the controller may briefly 'think' you've stopped pedaling. Have any of the magnets...

    A ray of hope?

Nothing humble about my bike :D I was only thinking today whilst riding, how nice it is to be in a different speed strata from all those agressive nutters in their cars. Maybe if they weren't allowed direct control of all that noise and momentum, they might have a little patience, and take...

    A ray of hope?

It was a joke!! And I said fUsion :) Oh, and I know that fuel cells have been around a long time, I believe they were first demonstrated in 1839 ;) Science fiction is only that until somebody actualy builds it - look at some of Arthur C. Clake's early stuff...

    Wisper anomaly

Is it when you're going uphill? If so, it'll be due to the fact that the voltage from the battery sags when under heavy load, and that the controller has a low voltage threshold that causes it to cut the power in order to prevent damage to the battery. The same has happened to me once or twice...

    A ray of hope?

As I said, we are in agreement with regard to the power source, due to the extreemely volatile nature of refined oil, its energetic pottential is huge, but there is no way of tapping this that doesn't involve an enormous waste of that very energy. Even so, the small ammount we are capable of...

    A ray of hope?

Yes, but you're talking about the system as a whole, including power source, I was refering to the motor/engine as a type of transducer. And I belive in terms of joules in to joules out in the form of kinetic energy, the motor wins, as I read somewhere that the ic engine in these terms is arund...

    A ray of hope?

It is a shame though, as everything else is there, including motors that are far more efficient than their oil burning counterparts (the ammount of noise and heat produced by standard engines is frankly ridiculous IMHO). I feel that if the economic 'crisis' had come a few years later, then the...
