    A ray of hope?

As with all electric vehicles, the weak link is still the battery, both in terms of cost and capacity/performance. Once a cheap, long range system is developed, then electric cars will seem a viable proposition to the general population, and mass production will bring the costs down. This in...

New Bigger Wisper is on the way this year

Brilliant! :) I suppose this stresses the battery far less when setting off. Is there any way of upgrading a 2008 905se to use this system? Possibly with a change of brake levers (as I understand that you're using hall effect sensors rather than simple switches now)?

    A ray of hope?

Well, the concept is just that, but it's also a fully working tech demo for a car to be launched in 2010, so both could be true. The only problem with electric cars is that I won't be able to hear them comming! :) On saying that, with the wind I didn't hear the VW bus with the seemingly stoned...

    A ray of hope?

Nope - I lied... nissan electric car nuvu concept "laminated lithium-ion battery" aparently.

    A ray of hope?

Indeed, but as far as I know, Nissan haven't announced an electric car of their own yet - Micra EV perhaps?

    A ray of hope?

In the BBC article it says the plant will be making Li-ion batteries, but I suppose this could mean a number of things.

    A ray of hope?

Nissan have obviously found it ecconomically viable to use the UK as a base for battery production: BBC NEWS | Business | Nissan to create hundreds of jobs. I wonder if this could be the start of a trend that would see cheap(er) e-bike batteries being made here too.....Pure speculation I know...

New Bigger Wisper is on the way this year

True, but I was thinking of a one size fits all kind of power ramp, say between 0 and 20rpm to smooth out the surge when setting off in high assist mode, low not being a problem as I find it gives barely enough power to overcome the bike's inertia - makes a rather pleasing motor whine though, so...

New Bigger Wisper is on the way this year

Do I take it that this will cause the power to ramp with pedaling speed, rather than simply switch the motor on as with the 905's pedelec sensor? If so, will the new controller be available as an upgrade for the 905se? I only ask as I've read several comments here saying that this 'surge' effect...

What gears do you actually use?

I appear to have now fixed this problem, after having a good look at the chainring, I discovered that in my ignorance I'd bought one designed to part of a double/triple set-up. When I looked at it on edge, I could see that the teeth were offset to one edge of the ring. So all I had to do was to...

    Waterproofs

I have a Gill goretex jacket, that was rather pricey when I got it (circa £140), but 9 years, and many storms later, still looks pretty new. I also have some Featherlite waterproof overtrousers, which do let the water permeate slightly, but only in the heaviest of showers. The advantage of these...

    Fancy automatic transmission?

I see it as apossible answer to the overly bity control systems. Simply have one of these with a throttle only hub motor, power both from the same battery, and you're away! :) Might need a BIG battery though, as the peak current for he shifter is 5A  If it peaked when the motor was under...

    Fancy automatic transmission?

Just found this, looks interesting, it'd need a front hub motor though. Fallbrook Technologies

What gears do you actually use?

Shame as I think the rear wheel is a better place for the motor, it is after all where bicycles are driven from naturally. Also there's no chance of the motor loosing traction on hills due to the front wheel lifting.

My new bike with Currie kit installed.

30mph downhill on a rough/loose suface - on SEMI SLICKS??? As a purely tarmac man I admire your bravery!

What gears do you actually use?

As I said, there's only the pottential for it when the chain is running down the gears at high speed (so I think in normal use it'd probably miss an outer ring) - has happened once after cresting a hill, and I was playing catch-up with the bike on the downward slope - my fault for being away...

    exta energy

Bet they're all being sold direct from the manufacturer rather than stock (variable lead time). On the subjct of testing, I'd prefer to see some standardisation, so the pottential customer can base their decision on figures that actually mean something comparitively. It'd also introduce an...

What gears do you actually use?

Surely in these days of modern composite materials, it's possible to build a robust freewheel! I know it's push the price up, but if it could be made to last a lifetime, I don't see the problem. With e-bikes becoming ever more popular, hopefuly some parts manufacturer will spot the gap in the...
