Hi ! And is there a tour de Presteign this year?

Er... why??? A shame that such an interesting event has chosen to take such a stance.

Best option for an auxilliary battery

Thanks Beeps, That 15ah is appealing because it gives great range as a standalone should I get my Tongxin back in use for the summer. As a battery to join up with my existing 13ah Wisper battery, it would give 70-80 miles, which is more than I can ever envisage wanting so, strictly speaking...

    Cutting off my nose...

As you say, Flecc, the Panasonic motor is proven. The teething troubles I recall with the Agattus mainly seemed to concern the hub gears. Note I'm not attempting to draw a comparison between the reliability or quality of Powabyke and Kalkhoff, but the usefulness of having a bike versus...

    Cutting off my nose...

I don't believe in buying anything that is not available or does not yet exist, however good it might turn out to be! For those who are living in hope of some day getting an Agattu or Pro-Connect, I'd recommend getting a second-hand Powabyke off eBay, and giving it a few months until the...

Best option for an auxilliary battery

Thanks Jeremy, I'll definitely get one then. Just need to decide if I need the 10 or 15Ah! The bigger battery is tempting but it is an extra 1.5 kg of weight. I'll mull it over for a day or two then decide... Frank

    Touring on a Wisper

I wasn't sure how it would work out. Necessity drove us on the first day as the battery ran out completely when we were still about 8 miles short of our hotel. So we went into a pub and I just asked. The barmaid was a little surprised, but said it was fine as long as no-one would trip up over...

    Touring on a Wisper

David, Thanks for your message - it was a great ride and once you get going the weather doesn't really matter! Please do quote me if you like - anonymously is fine but if you want to put my name to it I'd like to know where first if you don't mind. I'm sorry to hear you've had to give up...

Best option for an auxilliary battery

Interesting, thanks everyone. One question I had about the LiFePO4 batteries which Jeremy or Beeps may have a view on is how hot they get. Would it be ok to use one inside a pannier, or is some sort of cooling needed? Frank

Best option for an auxilliary battery

Thanks, Flecc - I'm quite tempted by the LiFePO4s. The fact is that you can't get an NiMH battery more cheaply and they are lighter. Also it would be just the job should I ever get my Tongxin working again...! Frank

    Touring on a Wisper

Flecc, yes - glad to be home and watching the snow falling from behind a window rather than burning my eyes on the downhill sections! Tony, thanks for your kind message! Frank

Best option for an auxilliary battery

I'm looking into options for an auxilliary battery for my Wisper. The objective is to get a longer range. My first thought was to add one or two NiMH 'boosters' along the lines of those that Nick/Tiberius has used to great effect on a Torq, as described on this post However I'm a...

    Touring on a Wisper

Thanks, it was a great weekend, and the weather was no problem once we got going. I've actually found the opposite to be true and have now go to the point where I very rarely use an electric bike! A year ago I was an occasional cyclist, using it for work once a fortnight and the odd...

    Cutting off my nose...

That's the 2008 version but, as David announced on the forum about 6 months ago, half of the first container of 2007 edition SE bikes went to Germany, half to the UK - see below for his clarification.

    Touring on a Wisper

My wife and I decided to spend the Easter weekend going on a bike trip to the South Coast. This plan was formed before the weather forecast for the weekend became clear, and we reviewed it last week and decided to go ahead anyway - but with some more warm clothes! Our route started from...

    New bike on the block

Jimmy, My latest wish-list electric bike is as follows: - Lightweight (not more than my Tongxin / Marin bike, which is <20kg), silent and looking like a bike not a moped. - Negligible rolling resistance from the motor Steel diamond frame and forks without suspension - V-brakes -...

    Cutting off my nose...

Hal, they've been on sale in the UK for about six months! Electric Bike Sales - Shop Online for Electric Bikes, Electric Vehicles and Cycle Accessories - 905se Wisper sent half their first container to Germany and half to the UK. I tried one here back at the start of November, and would have...

    Why can't you derestrict a Whisper 905e?

Keith, if you put your Quando motor in a 28" wheel, you would have re-invented the Torq!

    TongXin (a.k.a. Nano) motor project

Agreed! It looks great. Hope it continues to give you good performance Frank

    Seen anything strange lately?

Continuing the emergency services theme; today, going round Trafalgar Square - two cyclists with large red panniers with 'Fire Warden' written on their backs.

    Tongxin Kit 'where And How'

John that's very kind of you. I may well take you up on that. Slight complication is that I've changed all the connectors so it could be a bit touch fiddly - but I could probably put the Tongxin ones back on I've not tried the other throttle yet. I think what I might do is try that, then...
