6 speed to 7 speed conversion

FYI Flecc, the Wisper has a 7-speed freewheel with rear hub. The wheel is significantly dished to accomodate, with the spokes on the freewheel side being near-vertical!

    Marathon Plus Tyre Sizes

No Mandy, you're not unlucky if you are still using the Kendas that come on the Wisper. I got a puncture in mine after about 160 miles. I recall Aldby had a puncture with his at a similar mileage. The Kendas are not really up to it! I think what Flecc says is best advice - Marathon Plus...

    New Ezee ebike?

Been out for a year or two. It's their cruiser model with very big suspension forks! I think it is basically a Sprint with some style tweaks.

Hi ! And is there a tour de Presteign this year?

Alan, To clarify, no-one is anti helmet. Many people are anti daft rules, especially those rules with an overtone of self-righteousness about them! Frank

    The British and bikes

This is an interesting thread. I'd first say that I find the overwhelming majority of motorists and pedestrians courteous and pleasant people to share the roads with. The odd one is unpleasant (such as the driver who blew his horn a few times as he overtook me while I was cycling down the...

    First Agattu Puncture

John, If I can quote myself from another thread this morning, I think those Continental tyres are pretty good - a different class to those Kendas we both had to replace on our Wispers!

Where to find those tiny connector types ?

I think compatible ones are used on different bikes. For example, I was able to re-use one I'd cut off my Tongxin when fixing the wiring on my Suzhou Bafang Wisper. However I've never seen them being sold anywhere. Frank

    Sunday Times electric bike feature

I was writing from memory, the server being down, but have just been back to re-read what it said about Powacycle. By way of context, I think they are great bikes for someone living in flattish terrain, and have ridden almost 2,000 miles on one. You're right, Bob, its not as harsh as I...

    Battery Building Advice (Tongxin motor)

Thanks James, Much appreciated. Glad yours is performing well! Frank

    Battery Building Advice (Tongxin motor)

Thanks, Jeremy - I'll do that. You don't happen to know how you connect these little gems to the batteries? I think they have three prongs and a hole - do you know what goes where? I am assuming that I only use two of the connections but not sure which two! Frank

    Battery Building Advice (Tongxin motor)

John, or anyone else knowledgeable on electronics, reading this, The Maplin site has four different 30A rectifiers and gives maximum specifications for three voltages: recurrent peak reverse voltage RMS voltage DC blocking voltage I'm not sure which one is critical for connecting two 36v...

    Cleaning Electric Bikes

If you want it to look its best, then do clean it. I don't think it would come to any harm from not doing so. If I were going to clean mine, I'd just give it a rub first with a dry cloth then a damp one, rather than more agressive treatment. However this is all theoretical as I am not...

    Cleaning Electric Bikes

Can't help with that, John. I don't think I have cleaned a bike for over 25 years!

    Sunday Times electric bike feature

Yes, it's not a bad article. Not written from as much knowledge as you or many others on this forum could boast, but positive in outlook, and positioning electric bikes as being for the mainstream, not disabled only. Format is the traditional paragraph of oveview followed by short product...

    First Agattu Puncture

Bad luck on the puncture, John. At least it sounds a bit cleaner than your Wisper one! I have to say that of all the great marketing promotions of our time, doing three for two on inner tubes does not seem the best thought through in terms of intsilling consumer confidence in the quality of...

    Marathon Plus Tyre Sizes

I'm a big fan of Marathon Plus having done 2,000+ punctureless miles with them, spread across three bikes, over the last year. My new bike came with Continental Contact tyres - ie the basic one with what they call their 'Safety System' puncture protection as opposed to this higher level...

I imagine as long as they wear a helmet!

Death Threats For Online Vigilante Cyclist

Hal, Its highly unlikely you, or any other cyclist, will kill pedestrians. There was some data (that I posted on here a couple of months ago but can't now find) that shows that, even on pavements, pedestrians are more likely to be killed by motorists than by bikes! Frank

    Cycle helmets debate

I don't have the statistics to hand but believe that even more car drivers and their passengers are killed on UK roads. Therefore, Ian, while you are having the conversation, it would seem prudent to take up with your elected representatives the case for making helmets compulsory for all...

wet weather getting you down ...?

I wouldn't have fancied trying to ride home in tonight's wind with that on my bike - it was hard enough to keep control at times without something like that. One of the bikes they demonstrated on looked like it was an electric - seemed to be one of the specialbikes.at models with a Tongxin...
