Double wall rims from BMS - what tyres are compatible

Glad it's not just me with the presta thing ! When time comes to swap out the rear wheel I'll seriously think about drilling the front rim for schrader ones. Main problem was getting the tyre off (and back on again) .. I suspect 2.125 was the max these rims were supposed to take so 2.2s were...

    The plan so far.

Is the Specialized bike actually a carbon frame ? Sounds too cheap to be a full-carbon frame MTB from Specialized at £1600 new especially with full Ultegra - does it have carbon forks and a lightweight aluminium frame possibly ? I looked into trying to convert a carbon-frame bike too...

Double wall rims from BMS - what tyres are compatible

That's helpful. Was wondering what the minimum width I could get away with was on the one hand. On the other, do you think they would take the 2.2 knobblys if I wanted to go off-road ? Am I being ham-fisted with those presta valves trying to get them out of the rim when removing tyres or are...

Trek / CST motor / Hydraulic Disc Brakes / Cassette

Much more like it cost-wise ! Just been to a different local bike shop to get an inner tube for the back wheel and decided to be cheeky and take the wheel along strapped to my pannier rack ... they loosened it for me gratis. That's a shop I'd be happy to go back to :D. They used something...

Double wall rims from BMS - what tyres are compatible

Been looking at the rear eBike rims which BMS supply (26") and wondered if anyone who has ordered / used them can advise the range of tyres they will accommodate ? These are the ones which are supplied to build the wheel rather than the pre-built kits. I know that the existing Bontrager front...

Trek / CST motor / Hydraulic Disc Brakes / Cassette

Was just a bit worried about about wrecking the rim doing any significant riding on it, but if that's not likely, pressure off ! I did think about not bothering to remove - then thoughts were that if I want to swap over the cassette so as not to have to immediately buy another one (at least...

Trek / CST motor / Hydraulic Disc Brakes / Cassette

Aha ... thanks. £17 ?! .. it's enough to encourage you to set up in business unlocking seized cassettes ! :D I'll have to look for another supplier tho' ... I am banned from buying anything from Spa Cycles. Owner is the nastiest man I've ever come across in retail and the only person to tell me...

Trek / CST motor / Hydraulic Disc Brakes / Cassette

Understood. M12 then. Right - don't read about many of those on here. I know what you mean about the handling - even when I load the Agattu up very heavily on the back you really do notice a difference. Well, I do anyway. Still keep looking at the frame thinking it's too nice to cover up...

    The Dog Is OK

On the one path I use regularly (the short-cut to Waitrose being the closest dash for a sandwich when I've run out of food and missed lunch !) it's usually lovers kissing in the middle of the path. I call it lovers' lane ... Feel a bit of a killjoy stroking my bell in the middle of their passion...

Trek / CST motor / Hydraulic Disc Brakes / Cassette

No bag at the moment Dave - this is "stripped down for racing spec" right now ! I can put one on the rack/bag if they are on as you say but if no rack there won't be a bag either. I think the mudguards are going to have to go if a rack is fitted too ... unless there is some other way of...

Trek / CST motor / Hydraulic Disc Brakes / Cassette

Thanks Jeremy. If I swap out the wheels to run the bike in 'non-eBike mode' chances are I'll want the weight down as far as possible and remove any rack fitted (which is how it is at the moment). Do people only use these bikes off-road / in daylight without reflectors ? Here's a pic of the...

Trek / CST motor / Hydraulic Disc Brakes / Cassette

Just given the Trek 8500 its 1st proper test ride. All I can say is WOW IT's FAST !!!!!!! Flew up 1st moderate short hill without a motor even with big knobbly 2.2 tyres and stock Bontrager race rims !!!! I can definitely see me keeping this bike - I'm starting to love it now. Definitely want...

    The Dog Is OK

Have to admit I rarely use cycle paths because with slowing down for walkman-wearing pedestrians jay-walking, dogs on leads, huge puddles and heaps of leaves and cyclists stopped in the middle of the path chatting to pedestrians instead of standing to the side it's often just as quick to use the...

    Hydraulic disk brakes - what's wrong ?

OK thanks - that's incredibly comprehensive. When I reset the chain on the middle ring (front) after sorting the brakes and the left gear was set to mid, the chain was pretty much bang on the centre of the front derailleur bracket and no clatter so looking hopeful. I can see why, now, having...

    Rear light

Ah ... I've been using the search box on the forum page top right hand side, where you have to put the word "pedelecs" in to prove you're not a robot. Probably better off using google by the sounds of it. I couldn't actually remember the thread title at all - just recall there was a...

Any limitations on kit options for this donor bike ?

... and not forgetting any hub motor bike with a throttle more than walk assist isn't going to fall within EU law - the EU parameters mean nothing at all even as a guide unless you are doing a crank drive / pedelec-only hub kit.

Any limitations on kit options for this donor bike ?

The Bosch is not road legal in UK as has been extensively debated in other threads. Using it contravenes the Road Traffic Act, pure and simple. You can restrict a 500W rated to legal speed too but as you say can of worms. I've no interest in riding at 28mph unless on a downhill, unassisted with...

Any limitations on kit options for this donor bike ?

I guess a derestricted 250W is pretty much same deal as a 500W and just as 'naughty' ? .. plus it's best part of £900 for a kit from these guys against a top budget of £550 now, having paid a lot for the donor bike. The £350 saved is half a decent 2nd hand carbon Ultegra road bike which I'd like...

Any limitations on kit options for this donor bike ?

I think this is the most viable option, both in terms of cost and performance. The combination does have a slightly higher effective top assist speed too that is much closer to the speeds I normally ride at anyway - suffice to say it would simply allow me to sustain speeds I can ride at...
