Couple of ebay bikes - opinions please? :)

I'm sitting quietly on the sidelines, once again benefiting from the free knowledge available here - must admit when I first saw that second bike at £200 I nearly bought it! even though I have a perfectly good Salisbury SLX [I was toying with the idea of keeping the £200 bike and selling my SLX...

    Cheap lights for city cycling

How about this Rolson set for under £7 delivered? "This 2 piece Rolson LED Bicycle Light Set fits easily onto the tubular frame of a bike to provide light for visual and safety purposes. The front light has 5 LED's, clear Perspex cover and features a flashing mode, while the rear light has 3...

    Pro Connect Bolt warning.

Is it common to bikes in general? I ask because I also have noticed a very faint click from the back somewhere and reading the thread it seems like it might be a common fault.

Are They really exempt up to 40mph ?

My first machine was a Francis Barnett [the old FannyB] with a villier's 250cc 2 stroke. Ist stage tuning was to remove the front mudguard - that was good for another 10mph :) Had a mate who longed for a mb but couldn't raise the cash so he used to ride his pedal bike wearing a lovely...

    BionX Airnimal on ebay

It's easy to get excited in a bidding war and go too high which is why a lot of us use LotSniper. Work out what you really think it's worth and set LS to put a bid in for you 10 secs before bidding closes - it'll check the current level and then place your bid just 1 level higher so you get it...

Are They really exempt up to 40mph ?

Yes it was definately petrol but she was a post war bride so it's quite possible she brought it over from Germany - I remember it well because there was nothing else like it and all us kids longed for a shot, lol; we used to watch her open the front of the pack and pull the rope to start it then...

    Why no more gears?

So in essence you're using cadence as a kind of extra gear - double the pace for any given distance halves the effort required - lol, it's like everything else in life; easy when you know how! Cheers flecc, that makes up my mind on this one - I'm going to try the increased cadence route -...

Are They really exempt up to 40mph ?

We have quite a good museum of transport over in Glasgow but there's nothing like these machines - shame because I find them fascinating. Ok then, here's one for you! When I was very young a german lady who lived in our street had what looked like a normal big, black ladies [step through]...

    Why no more gears?

Now you've got me thinking! I used to do a lot of climbing but last year I had a pretty bad accident which saw me hanging from a rope by my leg which did a lot of damage to the muscles - result was I was laid up for quite a while and put on a fair bit of weight which I really want to lose. My...

Are They really exempt up to 40mph ?

That actually looks like quite a practical vehicle flecc - the motor position is much neater [and safer] down there. What were they like to ride? speed? and I'm really curious about what sort of MOT you'd have to put them through now!

Are They really exempt up to 40mph ?

They do say that you have to qualify medically to avoid registration, etc, but I wouldn't worry about that too much cos with that hot engine so close to your legs I think you'd soon qualify! On the other hand just think about the fun you could have by pulling in to a busy garage forecourt...

    Why no more gears?

Thanks guys, that photo makes the idea look like a fairly straightforward process. I do know of an engineer who just might take this on for me [I live in a town flat with no workspace or shed or I'd love to try and do it myself] but so I am clear on this - if the new chainwheel is bolted on...

    Why no more gears?

I have a Salisbury and sometimes feel I would like another gear to increase my road speed without feeling like a hamster [must admit I was a bit gobsmacked at the idea of pedalling at 90 - wow] so could the double chainring suggestion work or is there a simpler way to achieve the same thing - I...

Many thanks Danny - that's my weekend work sorted now :)

Do batteries have hissy fits on a semi-regular basis then?

Fech that's interesting - did the fault become more frequent with age do you know? or does it remain just an occasional thing? Also, I do a 4 mile round trip to work each day and I started off charging the battery each day but it seemed a bit like overkill [most of the time all the lights...

Do batteries have hissy fits on a semi-regular basis then?

Danny I've got a Salisbury too and I've had the same experience as you with an unexplained sudden loss of power. The first time it happened I was less than a mile out on level tracks, on a freshly recharged battery - all three lights were showing but the bike felt like lead. After I stopped...
