    Lisbon

Apropos of nothing, I just spent a few days in Lisbon, and there were loads of food delivery eBikers, none of whom were pedalling, most had no lights, and some seemed to be doing about 40mph. I couldn't get a good idea of how many had kick stands, but I guess the rules are different over there.

New LCD s866 fitted no walk assist?

Ok. I remembered that I'd made some notes on my phone while sorting this stuff out. P17 controls the walk assist feature, but the Throttle/Both settings in is P10 on my S866 LCD with a Brainpower controller.

New LCD s866 fitted no walk assist?

With my controller, which also uses the S866, there is a P setting for PAS/Throttle/Both. IIRC you have to be in Throttle or Both for the walk assist to work. I can't check it right now, as I'm away for a few days.

    Odd charger behaviour

I've only ever used it in products with a small single Lithium cell.

    Odd charger behaviour

I've seen it when charging single Li Ion cells - no balancing involved. My hypothesis is that the charging algorithm is stuck in the CV topping off phase, and the battery doesn't quite make it to the desired terminal cut off current. It'd be interesting to see what the voltage and the current...

    Old Giant struggles with hill.

Thanks. The controller is 24/36/48V, and has a settable parameter for nominal battery voltage, and another for low battery level, so I'm not really worried about that, I was more worried about the motor. So now I need to concoct some Heath Robinson way of temporarily applying 36V to see how it...

    Old Giant struggles with hill.

Thanks, the controller is rated for 36v.

    Old Giant struggles with hill.

Eventually got the new (Brainpower) controller shoehorned into this very old Giant Twist Express. Fitted a PAS to the crank, as the torque sensor on the rear dropout needs a bit of voltage shifting/remapping to work with the throttle input, and I can't be bothered to do anything until such time...

Do any cadence sensored hub motor controllers activate pedal assist when ghost pedalling backwards as well as forwards?

https://www.techmezine.com/allegro-product-news/magnetic-position-sensors-efficiently-drive-e-bike-pedal-assistsystems/ This is the link that some kindly soul posted yesterday, before swiftly deleting it.

Do any cadence sensored hub motor controllers activate pedal assist when ghost pedalling backwards as well as forwards?

And I was about to respond to the now disappeared post showing the use of an Allegro device, which actually incorporates three Hall effect sensors. But sorry, saneagle, I didn't want to upset anybody, just getting my head round how this stuff works.

Do any cadence sensored hub motor controllers activate pedal assist when ghost pedalling backwards as well as forwards?

I would agree, but I guess the aim is to only generate the pulse train in the forward direction.

Do any cadence sensored hub motor controllers activate pedal assist when ghost pedalling backwards as well as forwards?

I'm not sure about that. I don't think a single Hall effect sensor can determine the direction of travel of a magnet. I know there are some chips that can do this, but as far as I know, they have two Hall effect sensors integrated in the one chip. I may be very new to eBikes, but I've been...

Do any cadence sensored hub motor controllers activate pedal assist when ghost pedalling backwards as well as forwards?

If the cadence sensor has just the three wires, then my guess is that there are two Hall effect sensors, which produce a quadrature signal as the pedals turn, and there is a little bit of internal logic which gates one of the quadrature waveforms with the derived direction signal, so there's no...

    Spoke magnet speed sensor Brainpower.

Ok. Sorted. I had to invoke the self learning mode again, and now the speedo/odometer is working with the spoke magnet/reed switch speed.

    Spoke magnet speed sensor Brainpower.

Thanks. Neither option seems to work right now. The speedo/odometer works fine using the motor hall sensors, but seems to ignore the white wire. Is it possible that I need to connect the spoke magnet sensor and re invoke the self learning mode? Also, when I first got this running, I used a...
