    Home made pedelec/pedal torque sensor

I think the objective of the torque sensor is to simulate what the rider would have done if he had had access to a thumb throttle. The reason is that the output of the throttle is slow moving but selected at a level that gives just the right amount of assist. All the methods I have seen don't...

for people with dodgy knees, the best torque sensor is the thumb throttle. Shame it's got to go.

one thing I'd recommend is to keep those tyres well inflated - to 60 psi front and rear.

the bike suppliers need to ask the factory to turn on and set the default password in the LCD (usually 0512) for basic settings except the clock. The facility is there but only Volt and Cyclotricity do so as far as I am aware.

Sduro Haibike 22 Newton torque setting bolts.....ouch !!

I thought those 3 bolts are M6 going into thread inserts, I wouldn't go over 15NM with them.

most LCDs do have facility to password protect the settings. I suspect suppliers don't particularly want to set a password.

Sduro Haibike 22 Newton torque setting bolts.....ouch !!

you need to make sure that you recognize the click of the torque wrench before using for real. Even when I trust the tool, I always set the torque to 5NM to make sure I know the click. No way you can strip anything with 5NM and you know how it feel like. If the bolt needs 22NM (which is quite...

    Accelerator and new law question

it usually takes a lot of time and effort to create a new law, Norway for example simply adopt thousands of EU laws even when they don't have to just to save time and money. It's all too easy to ridicule EU directives, most of them are actually there to raise standard.

I think you would get more out of a geared hub motor if you have more gears. The Sram automatix is not really suitable for our hills.

I crimp all my cables, piece of cake to work with andersons. Andersons have flat contact area, very repeatable pulling force, producing pratically no spark whatever the power.

Looking for a strong but light e-bike for hilly commute

yes. A lot of the components have been upgraded. The controller on the Sirocco CD is rated 14A, the Bali has 18A controller. The front brakes are now much more powerful German designed Avid brakes. The battery is now also much lighter. Chunkier and stronger square frame tubes.

    Karoo or vita uno?

the Karoo has very good components for a Chinese bike. The crankset for example is the same Ounce 245A-45T as on this $4,000 Benellli Rapida http://benellibikes.ca/product/the-rapida/ The brakes are from Avid, the battery is 13AH or 15AH with Samsung cells. If you want to get the Karoo, you...

    Leaving the EU

no, he wouldn't. Anti-dumping duty is there to protect jobs. Article 50's two year period is too short for negociating new trade deals, only enough time to disantangle the CAP, fisheries, choose between EEA and organising a second referendum to get back in. I think most people who want out do so...

Problem with hub motor torque sensor and single speed

I know that motor a bit. It's the same motor on the Woosh Sport TS. As you have already found out, if the freewheel touches the motor casing, it will jam or stop the freewheel to rotate in relation to the motor casing. The solution is usually to add a spacer between the freewheel and the...
