    Panasonic 26v Battery

In many respects, ebike development has gone backwards since we bought our bikes Kenny.

    3 gears and 7 gears?

With an electric bike a wide range of gear ratios between the lowest and highest is the most important thing. The steps in between each gear can be very course (less gear ratios between lowest and highest) because the motor takes the strain. I have an Alfine 8 speed hub on my electric bike, but...

    Emu Electric Bikes

I read with interest that the parent company are, "Meyer & Co, more famous for being the largest bristle merchants in the world." Looks like they are set to sweep onto the electric bike market.

    Pro Connect just Died

If you mean this motor http://www.pro-cycling-golla.de/Panasonic_26V/Motoreinheit_2012_fuer_S-Pedelec_300_Watt_artikel5117959710fa3.html then that is for an S Pedelec From the blurb, it looks like it needs the LCD handlebar display and probably won't work with your LED unit. The motor will fit...

Anyone got a Raleigh Motus ?

Yes John, I retro fitted them in place of cable operated rim brakes. I think the cable brakes were better. For me though, disks are the only option. They are easier to set up, work better and don't chew up the wheel.

The cases are usually the same, so the mounting bolts should fit. The handlebar controller may be a problem though. I don't think they are interchangeable.

Anyone got a Raleigh Motus ?

I'd think twice about those Magura rim brakes. They are like rim brakes only worse. Magura have managed to combine all the disadvantages of rim brakes with all the disadvantages hydraulics. I had them on my Pro Connect and they were dreadful. The caliper pistons stick giving uneven adjustment...

    Pro Connect just Died

Sadly there is very little you can do to repair the Panasonic motor. My original stopped working and I replaced it with a new motor. Unless you can find a secondhand unit at reasonable cost, you have to weigh up if it's worth it. A new motor will cost in the region of £400...

    New Bosch Coming!

which equals torque x motor shaft speed, so to torque is very relevant. I'm just taking Martin's torque and motor speed figures at face value. I don't know whether they are correct.

    Waterproof Clothing

If you have somewhere to shower and dry your clothing at work, I wouldn't bother investing in so called breathable waterproof clothing. My experience is that you either get wet from the rain or from sweating inside a waterproof garment. There isn't sufficient airflow to cool you. Just get wet...

    New Bosch Coming!

Torque alone is meaningless. With the correct gearing, I could make the motor which drives the second hand on my wrist watch produce more torque than a Bosch motor, or any Ebike motor for that matter. It would be more meaningful if the manufacturers quoted T Nm at W rpm for example. Then you...

    Strava for E-bikes

It is annoying when someone sits high up the leader board because they have used an Ebike. I use Strava when riding my non assisted bikes and find it an incentive to train harder to get as far up the rankings as possible. Bizarrely, I find myself having feelings of dislike for Ebike riders, yet...

Alfine 11 robust enough for a 36v Panasonic 250w Mid Motor?

My 8 speed Alfine has been very reliable, but it's coupled to a 2008 and more recently, a 2011 Panasonic motor. What was 250 Watts back in 2011 doesn't seem to have harmed it, but I don't know how it would last if subjected to 2015's version of 250 Watts.

air suspension just seen very "cheap"

    If you ride through any high street on a 29er or 700C wheeled bicycle, this is what the average person going about their business will see and perceive; Riding a bicycle with 26" wheels or smaller distorts people's perceptions and they will see this;

air suspension just seen very "cheap"

And to add even more..... It doesn't just stop at buying a 26" wheeled bicycle. You then need to buy oversized shoes, a rotating bow tie and a red nose because it looks like something that a clown would ride.

What is the point of 'fat bikes'

I've never been anywhere near one of these bikes, but my guess is that the wheels and tyres are the main contributors to the overall weight. Like you, I'm not keen on them and time will tell if they are a fashion item or if they have a place in the bike market.
